Work is winding down on the Series 3 Pocket-Tactics sets and, since those are in the same theme/setting, I’m pivoting some of that work into our long-gestating New Dominion rpg.
Here’s me playing around with cover designs using the spectacular work Arthur Cordeiro did for the project. He illustrated the whole book, and those images are just waiting for the writing/formatting to be done so they can finally see the light of day. I want to make that happen soon, and maybe we’ll crowdfund this thing on Gamefound to put some fire under my feet. It’ll be a good excuse to organize and finally release all those printable miniature sets too.
I know you’re not supposed to format while you write, but… rules be damned, it’s just how I work. I find that giving myself a glimpse at the final product as I put words down helps me visualize it, and coming up with a page design first can be constructive, working within the limitations of the space rather than finding myself rambling and then bending the structure of the book around what’s written. You’ve gotta find your flow.
One of my favorite things to come out of this new momentum is the rules for mythical humans. Full disclosure: I like playing (and when people choose to play) human characters. Without them, I feel like the storytelling is in danger of becoming unmoored, and it really helps to contrast the fantastic elements. (Your yeti roboticist is going to seem a lot more exceptional if they’re hanging out with someone who’s not a far cry from the people playing the game, for example.) But, these are humans born from mythological worlds! With these new rules, mytho-humans are getting some expansive ancestral trait options. If you want to play a monomyth folk hero with pre-ordained story armor, you can! You can even be a demigod, born from a huge table of world myth deities. Or you can be both. Or neither.
I’m glad to be finding some space to throw work into this game, and it definitely means more miniatures coming down the pipeline, especially to fill out the ranks of the Mytho-Resistance (though Pocket-Tactics is contributing to that too, of xourse). More as it develops,
