[Hereafter] Chapter CLXXIII: Parahumans 101

I was very careful about how much detail went into the latter... Well, I can't call it a "half" when it takes up the majority of the chapter, but still. I didn't want this to feel too much like an infodump, and I was also leery of how many interruptions was too much and how much was not enough.

This...is also a very big chapter. Still not the biggest, because that honor goes to the beach episode, but it's 8.4K and some change. There was just so much to cover and not enough room to do it more succinctly.

Like with Hanging Questions, this isn't quite the end of things where Earth Bet's circumstances are concerned, but it's the end for now. The rest of the briefing will be off-screened, just as a matter of not trying to get too into the weeds with everything. But there will be more that rears its head, later on.

Side note, I've included alternate file formats for this chapter (epub and markdown as an alternative to the pdf). I can't guarantee their quality, so let me know if I need to find a program that can edit these to make sure they're up to snuff.

EDIT: Moving down all the way. 1/4/2025

I just thought about this - there ABSOLUTELY would be wagers between various staff members about Taylor’s Origins, even if it was just Bragging Rights. ‘Gossip’ about Why She’s So Competent is definitely one of the better forms of it, and relatively harmless.

Rather that Waver, the REALLY interesting reaction is going to be from EMIYA. EDIT: there ABSOLUTELY are parallels to him Experiencing Cursed Fire, which wiped him clean and him having Avalon implanted in him basically handed him his potential. Furthermore, the fact the outside entities have their own goals has parallels to how he got most of his Stockpile due to Being Employed as a Counter Guardian. (If there’s anyone that can put it into perspective, and make Waver regret his reaction, it would be Shirou; even moreso given he Knew Waver Personally. I could see Waver making a comment which, to those of us in the know, would reference to Taiga… There’s a reason I view Chaldea as basically the kind of job EMIYA wanted; kind of like a Working Vacation.) Given how much Taylor spilled, and the risks it poses to her, I could see EMIYA opening up about his History, at least in private.

Taylor would *definitely* be getting Aisha flashbacks . . . On the other hand, she knows how to *handle* Aisha, and *Kuro* doesn't have Jackie's "Information Erasure" Skill to mimic Aisha's power . . . Our favourite gremlin might find herself in trouble - she's dealing with a "Mama" with dark hair. :D

Geoffrey Sullivan

Holy shit this chapter was so cathartic. I hope there's more to the briefing that we actually see. Especially if she goes into specific details.

Cat Girl Eddie

See, this is why I am so eager for James-kun to do the Illya event. Imagine Kuro in Chaldea and the absolute fucking chaos she'd cause. Emiya would have a seizure just looking at her!

Gifted-Monster

*God,* I hope Regent isn't around in this Singularity - or *Aisha.* I don't think it could *survive* the three of them . . . Hey, should we call that "Plan B?"

Geoffrey Sullivan

Rika is gonna ask if Taylor got lots of sexy black leather, oiled up eye-candy and a bitching lair.

Gifted-Monster

Mash *might,* but would do it in all innocence . . . Or *Jackie,* in the same vein; then again, if she's been getting info from the dream cycle, then . . . Well, really, it would probably just *confirm* Jackie's belief that Taylor is the mommy for her - she *understands.* The only ones who might do so *belligerently* are Mordred or Jalter, I think - and I suspect, once they *understood* Taylor's full circumstances . . .? Deepening Bond levels - and I think Jalter would find a Master she could *trust* as much as Ritsuka, even if certain feelings of hers aren't echoed for *Taylor* as they are for him.

Geoffrey Sullivan

Like I said, Victor is only a problem if they don't know his powers. And he never operates solo anyway, they will have to hunt down Othella first because Victor will most likely have 'invincibility' or something.

KD

That went...fairly well, though they still don't know just how bad things got for Taylor, nor the lengths that she had to resort to. I wonder if anyone will ask Taylor about her 'one bad day.' Earlier in the story, I would have said Rika, but she's been maturing a fair amount, and she's more observant then she lets on.

s22132

Agreed.

s22132

the thing is, Victor steals skills so slowly that they'd knock him out before he gets the chance to do anything major. At least, to my understanding of how his power works.

Charles B. Andrulis

"Everything about Sempai makes *so* much sense, now - *SO MUCH sense . . .*" :D

Geoffrey Sullivan

I wonder what's EMIYA's reaction to the term 'superhero'? Also, there's a bunch of parahumans, though in Brockton Bay there is only one, where against parahumans they aren't too dangerous, and so Taylor might forget about them, but would be a bane to most Servants, such as E88 Victor with his 'Skill-Stealing'. Even if he himself can't use them, given enough time, that would absolutely screw over EMIYA and Aife combat skills, which they depend heavily heavily on (if parahuman powers work on Servants).

KD

Anyone else get the feeling that if Taylor lets slip she was a supervillain, Rika will be even more impressed?
