2023-01-13 16:52:55 +0000 UTCThe romance between JC and Wen Qing is a big controversy in The Untamed. I watched the live action version before any other adaptation, and I loved them. They have great chemistry and, like you said, a "Romeo and Juliet" type of romance. But it's purposefully done in the live adaptation, so it would work. In any other adaptation, Wen Qing isn't introduced until the scene where Wen Ning lets WWX, YanLi, and unconsciousness JC hide in his house after the Lotus Prier massacre (she doesn't study at Cloud Races and hasn't helped them many times before). So she and JC met only after almost all of his loved ones were killed by the hands of Wens. He hates her in the novel; he hates everyone with the surname Wen, and the building romance between them in The Untamed is absolutely uncharacteristic for his original character. So many fans, fans who knew the novel first, hate that part, which feels more like fanfiction in the novel than anything else. I still love them and ship them, and definitely don't want to discourage you from doing so (because they are great together), I just wanted to give you this "fandom and other adaptations" insight.

2023-01-13 16:33:51 +0000 UTCSo, about their relationship status at this point in the novel (manhua). As I mention before, this story is the slowest slow burn. So, if you ignore the fact that they will never explicitly get together in this adaptation and just take it as gradually building to their eventual romance, figuring their feelings, and so on, you will get the majority of the story. And it won't be different from the novel, where are some more romantic scenes, but they don't change their relationship or story till very later on. So no, they aren't together here, and honestly, romance is probably the last thing WWX is thinking about right now; it's the last of his priorities. LWJ is, of course, in love with him practically the whole time (you correctly said in the tortoise cave scene that he felt first). The novel is told from WWX's perspective, so we only know when he realized he had feelings (and he's oblivious to them, just as he is to LWJ's, so that realization took time), but there are many clues about when LWJ's feelings started. He's already been in love in the tortoise cave (there is a clear indication, but a detailed explanation could give you spoilers), and he for sure felt at least lust for him while they were studying in Cloud Racesses (in one of the novel's bonus chapters, they visit their dreams, and one of LWJ's recurring dreams appears to a memory of that library scene where WWX had to copy principles as punishment, except instead of LWJ sending WWX away after that porn book incident, he does in the dream what he wished to do all along and fucks WWX hard. LWJ is probably the horniest and most repressed Lan disciple ever).

Because you explained to me how the use of different names is indicative of how close people are and what it says about their relationship, I was able to understand what it meant when he switched to calling him Lan WangJi. I didnβt fully process it in the moment, but it sunk in later.

2023-01-13 15:38:31 +0000 UTCI love that every time something happens new to WWX, something that makes him a little bit less himself, you are like, "That's it, now they're going to see him as a villain and need to kill him," and it never happens (yet...), not to the extent they would turn against him. In this moment, JC doesn't realize the extent of what WWX is doing. Or more likely, he doesn't want to realize it, so he doesn't think about it and is just happy to have his brother back and content not knowing any details because, deep down, he knows he wouldn't like these details. There is also the fact that he doesn't care. WWX is back, and he's using his powers to get revenge for his clan. That's all that matters for JC at the moment, and that's all that's important. LWJ, on the other hand, figured it out to some extent. I really liked that Brian picked up on LWJ having the feeling that the one they were tracking was WWX all along. He's seen him make new talismans in the past (like the "bonding" thing), and he's seen him full of resentful energy from that sword while they fight black turtles together. He's just hoping he's wrong about that, but the moment he sees him playing the flute in Yiling, he knows. And he sees how much WWX has changed and knows that if he continues on this path of cultivation, things will only get worse. "Come back to Gusu with me." So iconic. One of the most important lines till now, line that appears in every adaptation of the story. LWJ sees the man he loves (which he does at this point; you mentioned you were curious about their dating status in the novel at this moment, and I get to that in another comment) going down a path that is against his principles, against everything he believes and was raised in. He doesn't know how to fix it; he doesn't have the right methods to do so, so he needs for WWX to come back to his home with him. The place with the largest library, with the most knowledge. If anywhere is an answer to how to fix, it's there. But WWX thinks LWJ hates him (because he's oblivious like that) and knows what he's doing violates important Lan principles, so he thinks LWJ wants him back to Gusu solely to punish and exorcise him, lock him somewhere. "Wei WuXian!" "Lan WangJi..." The second incredibly iconic line in this episode. So powerful, so heartbreaking. It's amazing what just using their courtesy names with each other means for their relationship. This is a true breakup, and they weren't even dating.

It's an honorable title LWJ received for his victory against Wen's when he was fighting to get Cloud Racesses back. It's often translated as "Light Bearing Lord" (the word "jun" means "lord" and it's added to titles to show even more respect). We already heard him be called like that in the first two episodes by almost everyone, because once one has titulated, it's impolite to call him anything then (if it's not a senior or someone really close like a sibling or partner). With the story progressing and characters having big heroic achievements, more and more of them will gain titles (because it's not enough to have to remember two names for each character). You already heard "Zewu-Jun", the title by which is called Lan XiChen.

Now, I would love to give you a detailed explanation on how WWX's new powers work, but I'm not sure what of it will be said in the show, and I don't want to spoil anything for you, so I'll wait until I'm sure the show won't reveal anything more. "He's cuter now" lol π.Β Also, I wouldn't say your tears can infect your wounds; on the contrary, I would guess it could be disinfectant but painful because of the salt; there is nothing that would have reason to cause infection.
