Dot Gals - Complete Gallery
Added 2022-07-09 22:09:07 +0000 UTCHere's the final collection of gals! I did some touch ups and I'm tempted to polish more, but I want to keep some of the evolution across the series. Notice how the hair started out as minimal anime style, and becomes more detailed and realistic in the second half of the batch.
My goal with DG was to become more proficient in something a bit out of my comefort zone, and as with all series, to make enjoyable art. Furthermore, taking a studious approach, I made sure to explore a range of hair textures/styles, skin tones, and variation in facial features. I was also careful to give each gal a unique color palette while maintaining overall harmony. That was made easy by selecting colors from my custom palette, Bright Future.
Based on social media interaction, Dot Gals has been one of the most wildly unpopular things I've made under the Slynyrd banner. Maybe it's not what people want to see out of me, but I think many assumed it was an NFT collection and turned away. No matter, I thoroughly enjoyed the process and made something I'm proud of while gaining proficiency in a weak area of my visual vocabulary.
Number 5 got the most aggregate likes across social media. My fave is number 6, as I like the natural, elegant look, and I love the clustering in the hair. Whose your favorite gal?

I've been working on my portraits as well and seeing your posts as the girls get completed was encouragement to keep at it. Thanks for doing this and glad you were able to grow through the process too!
