Thyrian Defenders - 26

Hey space cadets! Got some exciting progress on the intro scene. I was finally able to string together all the the little animations I've been working on the past couple months into one sequence. There are a few small details I might add later, but I'm quite happy with the sequence, and the way the overall presentation is shaping up. Now, a few more scenes to go for this intro. Hopefully they start coming together faster.

This is actually 100% created in Photoshop. Definitely, some of the most complex animation projects I've ever attempted in the program. There was a time I would have thought it impossible to make layered animation like this, but now I feel anything is possible. Not sure if many of you use Photoshop. I generally avoid program specific content, but if enough people are interested, I would be happy to share my workflow and animation secrets.

I see what you're saying. Might be able to bring the gauges in a touch faster. Not final yet, thinking about trying an iteration where all the cells stay on screen for the whole sequence. Thanks for the suggestion!

I really like this. Great work! For me however, the gagues moving feel a little late and disconnected from the ship lifting off. I don‘t know if that goes against the style you are going for, but would you consider fading the gagues in earlier so that there is a direct visual connection between pressing the buttons, the gagues moving to the max, and the ship lifting off? Cheers!

Yeah, the propagate frame feature can be pretty tricky. If you move a layer or edit the opacity of it when you are on frame 1 it will effect all succeeding frames. Note, this propagation behavior only occurs when the edits are made on frame 1. If you have the timeline open and select a layer, you can see a checkbox near the top of the layers panel for 'Propagate frame 1.' If you uncheck this box, it won't do this only for that layer. By default this box is checked, so it's a bit tedious if you want to turn it off for all layers.

Cool! This actually demonstrates pretty high competence with ps animation.

But I still mess it up sometimes when I move one layer it sometimes doesn't change it in other frames, but sometimes it does. I think it has to do with the order of the frames?

Yep, I've used a bit for stuff like this: https://pro2-bar-s3-cdn-cf6.myportfolio.com/0976f1386e7b2f50f9f576732c6fa0b5/a22c8b01-5574-4753-b52a-7245e6dabe0e_rw_1920.gif?h=8d6b78a5a5a2213e334fb84d83f5bf90

Yes, it's timeline animation. But to be clear, I only use the frame animation mode. Not the video timeline view. Seems limited to only have one animation layer, but just requires good organization and planning.

(It's also very cool to be able to open this up in Photoshop and click through frame by frame to see how you did the tv screen effect!)

Jude Buffum

Yes! I struggle with After Effects, and I like the "pixel perfect" rigidness that Photoshop brings, so any advice with Timeline Animation would be super helpful!
