The Dos, Don'ts and If You Dares

Sorry for the delay! This week I'm taking on another one of those race car parts that should really be reserved for a CNC. But I like a good challenge. And somewhere the lathe got involved... maybe challenge isn't the right word for it 0_o

Enjoy!

Sorry I'm just seeing this. That's some hella resourcefulness! haha

Brandon Sander

Yeah exactly. Haha yeah, evidently it is, not without its challenges though

CW

Like the same kind of knuckles I did last year? It is possible!

Brandon Sander

sometimes i us a product called ACF-50 for rust inhibition, but generally i have no corrosion issues at all except if something sits int he puddle of water that sometimes leaks in from the outside haha

Brandon Sander

Both. That was some damn nice manual machining.👍

Love always seeing new ways to do jobs. One thing I've always admired about your channel, how you show not only new ways of thinking about work holding and the machining process, but how you also go through the entire process and show the ups and downs of it all. I wish I could post pictures on here, i used the spindle and motor from my Taig mini mill and turned it into an er16 collet spindle tool post grinder for the lathe. I need to take a little more off of the d1 taper for my 5C collet chuck's backplate, I'm worried I'll take too much using insert tooling, and I'd rather grind it in anyways, soo worked through a project and now have a make shift tool post grinder :D

Love seeing you make parts for FSAE teams. I’m currently trying to get the FSUK team I’m a part of to manually machine the front steering knuckles, mainly just for the fun of it, but it’s not exactly going too well 😂

CW

4:14 I know the shop is climate controlled, but is there a coating you can put on the face plate to keep it from rusting? 5:48 GET A FEELER GUAGE 8:12 I'm not sure exactly what happened here. But I like your approach: even if it's not a useful scrap, cutting out waste is usually faster than turning all of it to chips/sawdust.

Max Goldstein

One of the best! (the program not my machining work 😜 )

Brandon Sander

Hey Karim! The change is largely to expand the potential audience to those that may otherwise overlook an obviously machining related video (because they may be unaware of how cool it is 😉). The videos are generally more about the stories than the parts themselves anyway

Brandon Sander

Great program they have at the college, and good on you for supporting them. Some nice machine work there!

Jeff Loffert

i think i peaked haha

Brandon Sander

you can never be too prepared... ive never read more than a couple pages but still. haha I think that 15th edition does actually.

Brandon Sander

Thanks! Skill and masochism must be closely related haha

Brandon Sander

never heard of it ;)

Brandon Sander

just wait until you need it ;)

Brandon Sander

Brandon I've been meaning to ask. What is the reason behind the change in thumbnail style (as compared to the ones currently on "WANTED: Dead or a LIVE CENTER" and older)? IMO I find that the old style fit the channel logo and machining subject better.

Karim El-Hayawan

Lol your comedic relief in these videos just keeps getting better and better. I can only imagine how hhysterically your wife was laughing at your "one with the metal" bit 😂

Kyle Wellman

Two Machinery's Handbooks (Machineries' Handbook?) and a Pocket Ref? Making me all nostalgic. Is one old enough it still has blacksmithing information?

Michael Faragher

It's always fun watching you do these videos that should be CNC parts. Takes some skill to figure all this out on a manual machine

Andrew Roberts

Going to have to install a floppy disk drive in you so you can read some gcode.

Matt Kosmoski

Very inspirational. Though now I have to clean up my faceplate.
