I Thought We Had Fun

Look, I know story structure and narrative stuff in general isn't Destin's favorite thing, but he's a good sport and I think we had a good time talking about character archetypes in story and in human psychology. Hope you enjoy it and the rest of the Christmas and New Year season.

Thanks,

Matt W.

I’m glad you guys circled back to the Hero’s Journey because it gave me an opportunity to make a book/discussion recommendation that I meant to make the last time you mentioned the concept! There’s a book called A Million Miles in a Thousand Years by Donald Miller that was my introduction to the Hero’s Journey and it also goes into thinking about your own life in those terms. Miller wrote a memoir called Blue Like Jazz (that you both and the third chair might also love) and he had never heard of the concept of the Hero’s Journey until his memoir was to be adapted for a screenplay and it (his book, but i.e. his life) started being edited to fit the Campbell mold. You guys and any listeners who might also be interested in that should check out one or both books.

Reading Jordan Peterson’s 12 Rules For Life, and if I had a nickel every time that man said the word ‘archetype’ I wouldn’t need 12 rules because I could buy happiness, so this episode has been really helpful so I fully understand what he’s saying. Great one again!
