I know it's an old podcast but just listened to it. I enjoyed it, thank you. It is quite interesting that doing a custom order 30 years ago would still have required some kind of contact info so they could let you know when the order came in. Unless of course, you plan to stop in every few days. The marketing has become more invasive, but the requirement for contact info hasn't changed. I did have some thoughts about the "are we the weak men" question. My thoughts could be summed up as: the previous generations charted the course, the current generations are manning the ship, and the upcoming generations are in training, preparing to take their stations. Shifting blame onto one group or another does little to change the current situation the ship and those onboard find themselves in. It seems every generation likes to blame the previous & upcoming ones. It is a common refrain that society is falling into decay. Also, something that can be found throughout history. It is almost a constant. As I see it, every generation will likely pass through those stages, even if society doesn't join in. Understand it is possible for the strong to become weak. This imaginary sliding scale is not going to be a static one. One must actively work to build and maintain who we are. That doesn't stop when the era we were raised in is in the past. Lastly, I would propose that the times are shaped by man as much as man is shaped by the times. Meaning that tough times make strong men is a nice sentiment, but can also make cruel, and vindictive men, something that history shows. Experiences impact individuals differently. Shape your times or have them shape you.
