tough time, but we endure

it's all been a bit overwhelming recently - the news, not my personal life, and whichever news you favor, it's enough to make you want to stick your head in a hole and hope it passes by.

we all have coping mechanisms, and some get wildly creative under pressure and others take comfort in everyday minutiae. I find physical projects clear my mind for mental endeavors later.

so for the moment i am making a piece of cosplay armor - a vest - that I will expand on later, but I think I will have completed enough by halloween to wear as part of a costume. The pure repetitiveness of sewing piece after piece - metal scale after scale - onto this is giving me some measure of control over SOMETHING, which helps a bit with stress. (Also massive callouses. The touchpad on my laptop won't even recognize my finger any more.)

BUT I am still determined to get the next Lovecraft 5 completed by halloween. Watch for that.

Picture attached is a shoulder piece of the armor. The keyboard edge will attach to the vest.

I see what you mean! A lot fo the rest of it is strips and patches right now, which will all go on a vest eventually. That's all i expect to have ready for halloween, with the winter to make sleeves, pants or skirt, and a cowl/headpiece to match for later cosplay events and larps

Doomscrolling is too too easy. But isolating oneself completely is too enticing. I try and balance news with comedy, and even binging old 80s tv shows. I find that Belle of the Ranch on youtube is a good voice of sanity for facts without much fear-mongering. I will post more pics of the armor as it comes together. I've designed it so i can make it in strips and patches and assemble them all on a nice heavy denim vest.

Tough times, indeed. A friend of mine took up the mandolin to avoid doomscrolling. Good luck with your armor, and if you release another Lovecraft 5 I'll be delighted to listen.

Lovely. From the angle I thought this was an armored wallet / pocket book
