All the Little Witches, part 103.

The banality of evil, nothing. Berecki's evil was spectacular. And persistent.

My guess is, there's some sort of <i>geas</i> on the grimoire to protect it from ordinary fire, wear and tear and aging. A road trip to an active volcano may be in order...

<i>"I see you're writing a necromancy spell. I can help with that!"</i>

But it tastes soooooooo good! Sinfully delicious!

Sure. If you don't mind Orphan's Liver Pate' or jello made from the hooves of sentient horse people, cooked by a fire demon.

It always seems to be the *evil* mages who reinforce their spellbooks and grimoires with wards and spells, to make sure that even if *they* don't make it through the ages, their knowledge will. I used to wonder why, but then I remembered Sean Connery in The Last Crusade; "I wrote them down in my diary so that I wouldn't *have* to remember!"

It's simple enough. Her first book found her, and it was patiently waiting in a shop window being ignored by everyone else. This book is set to find his descendants in much the same manner. And it's probably fire proof, just in case. And cursed in some way for those brilliant idiots who have to poke at stuff with a stick to see what happens.

I'm expecting she'll want to destroy it, though it may be protected somehow hence how it survived all this time. But I think she should keep it and read it. What one man can create, another can discover. If magic is coming back to the world with old Berecki gone it's entirely possible, even inevitable perhaps, that someone down the line could figure out one or more of the no doubt horrendous spells within it. Better to know what evil could be done and work out ways to counteract it, rather than try to stay 'pure' and get caught blindsided. Guns and bullets are one thing, but if there is some sort of 'instant flaying' spell or such in there it would be good to know such a spell exists and what to do about it if it were ever turned on her. O.O

Obviously Berecki-the-elder was grooming Berecki-the-younger to become powerful enough - then Berecki-the-elder was going to show Berecki-the-younger that nifty spell Posession ... by demonstration.

Yes, this book is full of evil, demonic and horrifying magic, but the dessert recipes in the back are absolutely delightful.

Well, they didn't have electric arc furnaces back then... :)

I think it's safe to say that once she skims it for anything useful (without moral dilemmas) she's going to burn it.

"Every common fool who dares to touch this book will totally... perbit"? Shouldn't that be peribit (perish)?

Starting to wonder if we're going to find out there was a metaphysical version of 'Paperclip' in Mink's universe.
