wow. I believe the exact opposite of what you said, until you explained it that way. i don't know if i ever thought of it like that before. you have actually changed my opinion on the subject. that was a very well rounded point.

My political views are better and more well rounded and favored than yours

Outside is one of my top 5 David Bowie albums, and that prom scene with the I Have Not Been To Oxford Town cover kind of walloped me upside the head when I first saw it. I've since learned that the gal who covered it (and performed it in the film) is the daughter of the guy who did the score. Nepotism aside, that made me feel a bit better about it, after years of imagining some random twat trying to be avant-garde throwing it in there to be cool ;-)

I was old enough when it came out that I should have picked up on the themes, but I thought it was just an offbeat B movie. Only when my friend would go on about it and play his copy of it all the time did I finally realize there was a lot more to it

Was Rich wearing that black and white Garth Brooks shirt from the 90s in that "2012" pic?

Love this and the movie. Does seem like it went over a lot of people's head at the time. Early teenage me saw it for Denise Richards, came away wondering why everyone seemed so brainwashed and happy about dying for a tyrannical government. Good stuff.

I always liked Starship Troopers from the beginning. Glad to see it getting some love.

One thing the episode didn't touch on was the excellent, sweeping score by Basil Poledouris. From Conan, to Robocop, to The Hunt for Red October, if you needed a booming, Brass-heavy score, he was your guy.

Great Re:View guys! I watched it for the first time not too long ago. I knew it was a satire but I wasn't aware of how deep the film goes into that mission to the point of creating intentional shallow characters! I liked the film already but thanks for breaking down that "love square," certainly was the most confusing element for me.

Ya, the book was *not* satire. Heinlein was a real war monger when writing that book. His other books were either male fantasy (dozens of wives) or nerd fantasy (the best people do complex tedious math in their head).

When I first heard they were going to make this, I was super-psyched. I read the novel in high school and was expecting to see a faithful adaptation complete with Heinlein's pro-military message and massive powered armor battles against Communist space bugs. What I got was a cross between Aliens and Beverly Hill 90210.

People who are aware of this film and have yet to see the anthology BLACK MIRROR should also check out "Men Against Fire". Same subject on fascism and brainwashing, yet it's completely upfront about its message. Not a great episode and a bit incomplete, but it's worth a view for comparison. Sadly, it feels like more movies and shows have to be transparent about their satire goals, because as of now, our present is looking more like what such early films are warning about.

I'm being distracted by the light glaring off Jay's forehead. It's giving me flashbacks to the 4-lights episode of the Star Trak. Personally, I see two lights. And I'm sticking to that answer no matter how much you torture me.

Let me be the first to echo the comments that is was completely mis-understood, and absolutely trashed. The critics did not realize the author was a WW2 combat infantry man who knew of war, and tyranny. The book is brilliant, if with the technology and right script and cast, it could be a great money maker, and work of art. Alan, Stanley Kubrick "where for art thou"..lol
