Extended Writing Update

This was a good writing week for me.

I continue to be grateful for the grace you guys have shown me with the past month's bumps and bruises on my health. Not having to prep a demo for October has been a huge help to me getting back on my feet ❤️ I've gotten rest, and I'm set up to start some new treatments soon that I hope will have me in a better place in time. The experience as a whole has led to an interesting addition to the fae minigame. I've drafted the beginnings of a chapter I hadn't planned on writing, but in many ways the project is a diary of sorts, and one portion of my life's experience called loudly enough to be included that I had to listen.

Resting has also been good for me to take a breather and recharge on my creativity! Prior to this month, I'd been moving a little slow in comparison to my usual pace. But focusing on the RO bonus stories has been a really nice way to shift focus and remind myself of all the things waiting to be explored in the world.

As a result, I came back to book 2 yesterday with new eyes. I could see the problems in chapter 1's first draft and quickly realized the best way to handle it was to start a new file completely and just pull in the old parts as I needed them. The old file had all the parts I needed, but they were all in the wrong order. This happens to me fairly often in the early stages of writing, so I rolled up my sleeves and got to fixing it without any worry. If anything, it felt positive. There's always this sense of things clicking into place when I figure out a structure/pacing issue, like "oh thank goodness, that's so much better" lol.

In other news, here's the poll results from patreon and ko-fi on this month's extra content: it seems the verdict is in, and we'll be having a breakdown of all the things I've learned writing a hosted game! For those who voted for the regular option, don't worry, I'll be making something along those lines next month, so hopefully everybody will get something they enjoy between now and November :)

I gotta get a move on, with the 31st around the corner haha. I'm not too worried - Keo's bonus story is about a quarter of the way done already and gosh I really love the little bit of lore I put into it. I'd like to put it (the prism rain) into the main game, I know exactly the scene I want to write... but I'm pretty sure it's not going to fit into the main story 😅 Ah, well. I've put the idea it into my "Dreams of a DLC" folder so I don't forget it. I'll probably write it at some point. I mean, after all, who doesn't love a masquerade?
