Seeking artistic feedback...

Hey everyone... so I wanna see if I can start making some improvements to my art in areas where I feel like I'm lacking. But sometimes this isn't always possible without feedback from others. So I'm hoping to hear from you. What do you think I do well? What do you think I could do better? My last piece didn't get a lot of attention here which leads me to believe that maybe it wasn't as exciting as it could have been – but in general I want to make sure that I'm improving in the right ways for all my pics. I'll always do my thing of course, but I also want to make sure I create images that you enjoy seeing and paying for. I'm not scared of your feedback so don't be afraid to be honest with me if you think you can help! Thanks!

Comments

...maybe try different poses/angles/views? Most of your drawings are frontal, barely any back, side, under or top shots....idk just giving my 2 cents.

Just keep doing what you are doing as often as possible, keep your style, it will change a bit.

Don

I'm not a patron, but as an artist and a lurker, I thought I'd throw my two cents. You art is something I've followed for a while. Your choices and skill with perspectives are enviable. I personnally found your last illustration really great. Though one thing I've associated with your brand is slightly exaggerates angles and obvious focal points. I was unsure where mt eyes wanted to settle first, it might be a bit easier to focus on a single focal point...perhaps this particular image wasn't pushed enough in terms of viewpoint? I also felt there was no variation to the reds you used and that may have flattened your image a bit. Which is a shame because the texture and detaiks of the red suit are sublime. I think your supporters are following you for a reason. Your work resonates with them. You have great ideas and asking feedback is such an amazing way to keep pushing what the followers want to see. Dont forget we're hardest on ourselves lol supporters wont necessarily see your work as critically as you do Keep up the beautiful work, erotibot

Yes, I appreciate it. I feel bad about mentioning the Persona piece now, because honestly it's not about that, and it's not about getting attention for me. It just made me curious if there are things I could be doing better. That's all. Thanks for your thoughts :)

Erotibot

Thanks for the feedback! That's very good advice.

Erotibot

I think it's just the topic you've picked. As much as persona is popular on PS consoles, it literally doesn't exist anywhere else. People like what they already know like songs in radio. The art itself is top-notch quality wise, but most of people consider it as well-drawn another bondage blonde as they lack "bond" with the game series. You mentioned it was a choice of your supporters. The think is they are just a small subset of all people browsing patreon, pixiv etc. I don't mean you should negate their opinion (financial suicide), but in my opinion it was mainly targeted to them, so I guess they are quite happy with what they got. My point is if you want a lots of "attention" you should create works based on anime/games which have quite big number of fans like NGE, Bakemonogatari (seen you have an unfinished sketch of yours), TTGL (Yoko) or Code Geass. I think 2 good examples of works which you drew was from Nier (PC game with a lot if hype, not console) and Re:Zero (wide audience). I'm not sure how you measure level of success of your works, but these are my thoughts on this. I'm not official/financial supporter, but I dared to add my 2 cents as I wish you very best with your works.

SteelRaven

Hahaha... I guess I was just looking for overall feedback in general? I sit down and do my thing to the best of my ability, but I'm also blind to what people find interesting in my work, or what they think I could improve on. I had some good feedback already when Melamber said to match the emotions to the situation... nothing I don't know, but it's good to be reminded when I forget. Or when Lame Lade said the last one didn't have the depth some of my other pics did, and I think that's true as well. To be honest with you I don't actually think anything is terribly wrong with the Persona piece. I actually like it. But I do think the idea could have been better? I don't care too much about getting comments but I do like the idea of exciting people with my art, and if I fail to do that for one reason or another I usually stop and think about it. I don't want to become just another pin up artist... and this could also just be me acting entirely too self conscious, but improvement is the artist's journey, and feedback - or at least knowing when you're on the right track is useful.

Erotibot

I've been reading most of the comments and your responses and I'm still not entirely sure what you're asking (not to be ignorant or slow but trying to be helpful). Are you asking, "how can I draw better?" (And if so, do you have an idea of what you mean as "better"?) Or do you mean, "this piece of art" (such as Persona) "didn't have the critical response I was expecting and so I feel, but don't know, there is something wrong with it." Is this what you mean? Or are you asking, "how can I make my pictures have more pop Or be more realistic? Or eradicate/spread communism? "

Abraham McNeil

I've noticed artwork doesn't typically get a ton of feedback, especially not much constructive artistic feedback, it's typically more like "I like that character" or good work!" which can be great, no doubt, but you know, not overly specific. ;) But to address the most recent P5 pic, I thought it was great! Very on model, cute pose, clean linework, good use of the P5 visual motifs (although I haven't played it yet), and an excellent mix of cell-shade and 3D coloring techniques. Sorry I can't really find any negatives to point out.

Oni

Thank-you so much. That observation is very helpful and you're right!

Erotibot

So when I look at art, be it NSFW or not I look for things that evoke emotion or resonate with me. Often this comes from a connection to a character or a situation. Irrespective of that I am drawn to art that transmits a tone or mood well. To be interesting the character(s) shown need to transmit something, be it joy, anger, shyness or pleasure. Looking at the pussycat piece I feel the character isn't showing an emotion that matches the situation. She should be surprised or angry, but she looks completely disconnected from the situation. Looking back over your works the that do this better are "Destroyed", "Digimon girls", "Fire Sisters", "Pussy Whipped" or "Side Order". There are more, just naming a few. Technically your skill at detail is awesome, but to be interesting a piece needs more. Even pin up art can show emotion, such as confidence, pride or regret. If you capture those emotions in a piece I feel your work will be even more impactful.

Thank-you for that comment, and you know how to get straight to me with that Jay-Z reference. It's difficult even as an artist to hear praise, because many of us constantly scrutinize our own work and fail to see it through the eyes of a fan. I always feel that my technical abilities could be way better, but I also have no idea how others see it. Personally I feel that I've been becoming too reliant on references to get started - whereas my stronger pieces are the ones where I usually don't use a reference - like the Peach picture. I'm trying to get back into gestural drawing and honing my ability to draw from my mind more, but improving on core drawing skills is never easy.

Erotibot

Yeah, I'll second the previous posters. You're steadily improving. The Persona Piece was very nice, but I'm not super into the game or fetish gear for that matter.

Daikaiju

It's interesting that you're asking specifically for technical feedback when clearly so many of us think your technical skills are just absolutely mind blowing. I think I heard Jay Z say once that the sign of a true artist is they're never happy with their work. It's *really* hard for us fans to nitpick, but after looking through your work and looking at the latest upload (which I'm assuming is "Pussycat"?) -- If you twisted my arm I'd say maybe the most noticeable difference between my favorite things you've done and "Pussycat" is depth. I dunno, I just noticed a pattern going through your artwork where the pieces with a strong visible depth and dimension really popped out to me. For example, literally every time I see "Pussy Whipped" with Peach and Bowser, even if it just happened to get reposted somewhere, I feel *compelled* to open it and look at it again. And not just because the concept and the theme and interesting sexuality of it. To me it's just an amazingly compelling piece of art. The really unique perspective and how much it feels like it's in a three dimensional world -- just great. Also the lighting in it is really great with that key light from the flames on her back is awesome. It's an amazing piece of artwork. I would say "Pussycat" lacks some of that. All that being said I would be wary of commentors' suggestions, especially mine. From what I've seen, fanbase suggestions can often hurt creators and their process more than help. Keep up the great work.

Lame Lade

Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that. It's not really so much about likes or comments for me. Right now I just want to know if there are areas I can improve in. Thank-you for your thoughts, I'm really happy you like HSH :)

Erotibot

That's very good and valid feedback, and that does help me. Thanks a bunch.

Erotibot

I think your art is fine. Looking back you've been making steady improvements and there wasn't really any big things that jumped out at me as being off. As far as engagement goes... I personally don't comment much because there isn't much to say besides "Good shit.". Typically, at least on the internet, people don't feel the need to speak up unless they have a grievance with something. So if anything, the lack of comments is probably a good sign. The "Like" system is kind of weird to me. Maybe it makes more sense for artists that do monthly batches and people can "Like" the pieces out of the batch that they're most fond of, and that may tell the artist something, but your Patreon is per piece and I wouldn't pay for something I didn't like. You have access to more analytics I'm sure so maybe not as many people have been purchasing your recent work or only lower pay-tiers, but I honestly have nothing to complain about/criticize.

Xyz

Artistically speaking I feel that this recent work was just as well rendered/designed/composed as anything else you have done. BTW, your stuff is awesome, and that is why I am here ;) That said this recent piece is focused on a subset of your fan base (i.e. those that want to see fan art and, more specifically, those that voted for Ann/Panther from Persona 5). Generally speaking I am not into polls because I am here to see what YOU create and HotShitHigh is one of the main reasons for that. If this particular pic did not garner as many likes/views/etc I do not think it was for a lack of artistic or aesthetic quality....if that makes any sense? =D

thefooltouchstone

I don't know a thing about artistic design and what not so please take what i say with a tablespoon of salt. I might not even know what I'm talking about. I went back through your recent pictures and my favourite one was the picture total destroyed. I then compared that against the ones after it and the only thing my brain can pick is that the pose is just easier to understand I think? The other that followed after it were mostly either not focal on what lewd content there was, or were rather complicated poses that id look at and just... find harder to understand? I'm not really sure if what I think is the same as other people but I'm a patreon because of your high quality nsfw art, when there's something about the image that makes it harder to understand that (for me at least) kind of detracts from the overall presentation of the piece. I'm not too sure if that makes sense or if I'm a minority who feels that way but that's my 2 cents added to the pool. Tell me what yo u think about that so I don't FEEL like an idiot haha

Zxios

Cool, thanks! And yeah... this is less about the Persona art, and more about my work in general. I wanna hit the high notes as much as possible. So feedback can help me do that I think.

Erotibot

Thank-you for that feedback, I appreciate it.

Erotibot

I would say it's because Persona isn't very popular, but she won the poll so that can't be the case. Could be something as simple as all the Persona fans on here don't like to comment much. I know that receiving comments on your work is great, so I always make an effort regardless of whether or not I know the character. I guess some people will just enjoy silently. I don't see myself as being of a high enough artistic level, at least not yet, to properly critique your work in regards to composition, anatomy, proportions, rendering, lighting and so forth, so I've not much to say there since it all seems great to me. Not sure if it'l help in regards to what works, but my favourite pieces are, 'Plusguits', 'A Sticky Situation' and 'Destroyed'.

Inquisitor

A lot of this comes down to preference. Lots of people already support you here cause it's your style they prefer. For me your last one didn't stand out for me because I personally thought she looked too doll like and it didn't really have anything going on. She still had aesthetically pleasing curves but a situation always adds something exciting. This time it just seemed like a pose just to be sexy which isn't always bad but I think with the recent attention p5 is getting it turned out to be lackluster compared to some of the other art/hentai it's been receiving. To compare it to the one that you drew for me with Alkaid she had a more mature look but nothing too old and something was happening. The image your icon is from is great because the scenerio that was happening was over the top and exciting. Of course as I said this is all down to preference. There are some people who come here because they know your style and the way you do things is what they want. That's why I'm here as well.

TakuAmazuki

I think the lack of attention on it was just the fact Persona is a (highly rated ) niche series so people don't resonate with the character very well even though she won as well as people just forgetting to click like because the wip post got plenty of likes on it. But if there is any one thing in that illustration is her left leg looks a little weird to me but other then that i think it's plenty exciting and well made. betcha if you gave your pieces bigger breasts you'd get more likes jk

A-T

Still good to hear. Thank-you.

Erotibot

Thank-you.

Erotibot

Maybe. But the Persona WIP had more comments and likes than the finished pic. Which doesn't bother me, but it tells me that people weren't as excited for the image as they were for what they thought it would be. So that means... I could do something better, I think?

Erotibot

OK, great. Thank-you for this feedback. This is stuff I can't really tell once I've been staring at a drawing for too long. I do tend to exaggerate perspective, but sometimes I can't tell when I go too far.

Erotibot

Seriously don't know what to say. You're one of the few artists who I'm like "this dude is perfect." You draw the best and most interesting poses, your coloring and black and white stuff it all on point too. The only thing I can really think you could do would be to change your style to mix it up a bit. That's not really "fixing" anything, just trying something new. Sorry if this isn't a big help, but you're just too damn good.

44KPanda

Okay, but disregarding the last piece. I'm looking for general feedback on the technical merits of my art. When I look at my art, I see room for improvement. I don't know if others feel the same way... but if you do, lemme have it!

Erotibot

Frankly, my favorite piece of yours (the one that brought me to you Patreon) is your Asuka in the incomplete black plug suit. Beautifully detailed, well proportioned, yet simple in its execution. In comparison, the Anne/Panther piece has a ton going on, but her proportions don't seem quite right. Her eyes seem a little close together, and even allowing her perspective, her hips and legs seem too large. Also, her boobies are covered. Lots of people prefer the boobies.

Xavon

Subjectively some of the most important things for popular lewds is composition and relevance. If you're worried about the Persona artwork, I'd say compared to the other ones it reveals too much while not effectively guiding the eyes. You didn't tag it as Persona on Tumblr. Could that have an impact? Is Persona as relevant as your other themes were when you made them?

Patrone

It's not your skills , it's your content. The Persona 5 isn't that strong in the current meta. Currently the character on top of the current fandom meta is that Wendy's mascot.

HEARTZMD

I thought your last piece was fucking amazing! I just don't comment on stuff often....more of a lurker :P

Honestly, I just had no idea who that character was. Great drawing though.
