Got a couple of small confessions to make:
The first one is that printing is on hold for the moment, although I only have eight outstanding orders left. I'd stocked up on plenty of materials for the run- thankfully- but the one part I didn't get a spare of, is of course the one that wore out. (It's a 'transfer unit' that takes the images from the separate color units and combines them to be actually printed.)
The unit is good for 100K prints, and apparently we'd passed that some time ago. It lets me keep printing, but I'm starting to get "ghosting" as shown in the first image, above. That's not acceptable, so I need to replace that unit.
I ordered one early last week, and paid extra for 'rush' UPS shipping (over $100 just in shipping) but according to the tracking, I'm not due to actually get it 'til this coming Thursday.
I have several stacks of books just waiting on covers, so as soon as it's in, I'll whip those out and should be able to ship anything that's left by Friday. I'll let'cha know if it's significantly before or after that.
Some of those covers may have made it into the wild. If you got one, and would like a replacement, email me at grumpy@the-whiteboard.com and I'll get you a replacement.
The other photo is a more significant error. While laying out the books, to help make the "pacing" work- that is, how the strips appear on the pages, keeping paired strips on the same page, or making a 5 or 6-panel strip all fit on one page rather than two opposing pages, etc.- I'll occasionally throw in a bonus strip.
The lower one, above, is such a strip- the next strip used extra-wide panels, that needed to all be on the same page, so I whipped up a sort of filler/bonus strip.
However, by some truly stunning attack of stupidity, I somehow managed to put the blank strip, with no dialogue, in the print file, in place of the finished strip. Here's the finished one:

I know at least some of the first-run books got the correct strip. I'm not at all sure how many, total, got the blank one. It could be most of them. :(
Again, if you'd like a replacement, drop me a line at the above email address, and I'll send you a replacement. (In both cases, as soon as I've got my system back up and running, and filled current orders. I know there's also a lot of books still in transit, especially overseas, so when you get yours in, just let me know and I'll do what I can.)
My apologies for the extra hassle and/or delays, it's my own dang fault for trying to do all this while juggling 20 other things at once. Have a little patience and we'll get it all straightened out. :)
