I would have liked to hear Cara’s thoughts on using class participation in student assessments, and how to do so equitably in light of various challenges individual students may face. It seems like it could create additional barriers for students with anxiety, those on the spectrum, or those with other means of perceiving, processing or expressing.

2023-09-09 20:31:25 +0000 UTCI read the book The God Impulse about NDEs (recommended to my by Stephanie Savage, a coma survivor, who had written for Skeptical Enquirer). The author, a doctor, takes a very open-minded, uncritical approach to patient stories he had collected. He then goes on to give all the natural explanations for every aspect . The explanations are great, the un-criticalness is disconcerting, but the ending is quite unexpected. I wanted to tear the book up. I didn't. I've gotten used to the ending since and don't disagree. But, as I said, the explanations are spot on and science-based.
