Shattered 0.2 Public Version

The public version of 0.2 is on. Now with the music. Although I personally prefer playing without it.

I also have to remind you to start a new game, because saves from 0.1 won't work. I mean, they could, you'll just get locked out of several routes.

As far as the content goes, we have several new characters, new scenes, new routes, and many, many new outfits for Blake. Which, in my opinion, was the most important thing out of all. Enjoy!

Okay, I've checked the code and you actually found a huuuge bug that would completely break the game if left untouched. All because of one wrong symbol. Thank you very much.

If you are gonna issue a bugfix, I might as well mention one more minor thing. If I remember correctly I saw Melinda becoming Malinda at least a few times. You might want to spellcheck that :-)

Okay, I will look into those issues as soon as I get to my pc. Expect a reupload later today. I will think about your button suggestion, but I can’t promise I’ll introduce it soon enough, since it will require some additional tinkering with Renpy and I’m not yet qualified for it. But you have my promise that I will try. Still, the fourth wall breaking character won’t go away, since I have some plans for him in the future. Not critical to the story, don’t worry. You can just skip him for now.

I have started a game from the beginning just like the main post suggested. As for point 4, I'm using a Win7 with res 1920x1080. I'm pretty sure that's not a problem with my rig. The dark violet colour you used for Lucia's name, coupled with a very thin font makes it particularly strenuous on the eyes. Regarding point 5, why not creating a diary icon, say in the top right of the screen, that can be opened any time, and you can read new entries that have been added. If you are planning to include more external lore, that cannot be infodumped by Blake, that would be the best option. Though, in my opinion, at least the current 4th wall scene could have been easily avoided and all the info could have been shared by Blake. IMHO, it's better for immersion to share the available information through the narration of the main character than to add it externally (i.e. Codex), and it's better to share it externally, than to engage in 4th wall breaking. I can tell that the fourth wall stuff won't be popular overall and you ill do yourself a service by avoiding it if possible.

Thank you for your comment! Points 1–3 are definitely bugs. Those situations should go exactly as you think. Do you mind telling me if you started a new game or continued the old save? As for 4, I need more information. What is your game screen resolution and what platform are you using? Point 5, unfortunately, will stay the same. I’ve been thinking about it and I don’t think codex system would work since it requires either making a specific menu option (which isn’t very good in my opinion, but I’m open to suggestions), or giving Blake an option to return to his room and read a diary or something, which is hardly compatible with chosen format. So yeah, dialogues all the way. I knew this wouldn’t be 100% popular option and I’m very sorry that you don’t like it.

Okay, a few things I wanted to comment about: 1. After the scene where you can confess about your previous love to Melinda, if you confess, the next scene shows Blake used as a footrest and internally commenting that it must be punishment for wasting her time and that he should have been sincere. It doesn't fit in a situation where he confesses. Seems to me that internal dialogue should have been different in that case. 2. In a scene with Liam in a bar, at one point Blake's sprite changes somewhat at one point. It's like his hair and body volume decreases or something... It looks to me like a visual glitch. 3. During the scene with Vanessa, Blake internally says that he prefers his boyfriends to be women, even if he was ready to jump Liam's bones just minutes ago. Doesn't seem to fit the situation, where you wanted to start a relationship with Liam. 4. There are some problems with the font. First of all, the letters should be thicker, but the biggest problem is with Lucia's name, which cannot be seen at all. You must squint really hard to see that the name says Lucia in the scenes with her. The colour of her name should be changed to something much brighter, because currently it completely blends into the background. 5. I have no idea if you intend to continue with the fourth wall commentaries, but the way you are currently doing them just doesn't work. If you want to provide additional lore for us, you should do something like Mass Effect, i.e. some sort of a Codex entry, where the additional lore is unlocked when you reach certain scenes. Otherwise, I'm enjoying the game a lot and I hope my observations help you somewhat.
