280Z Project Update! - February 2025

I'm very excited for this and I hope you are too

280Z Project Update! - February 2025

Comments

yay! The bike videos are my favorite, though I know I’m a minority in that opinion. Your GPZ series is a big part of what convinced me to get an 80s motorcycle as well!

Ariel Abraham

That is Crazy. how do you edit on such a machine?! I have a 2015 pro that you can just have if you want lol, (if you ship it)

John Workman

Here's your model...https://www.reddit.com/r/classiccars/comments/1ixydfs/electric_1977_amc_pacer_photos_from_nasa/

LokiBeat

That actually is the next project :)

Ronald Finger

Next project car needs to be a converted ICE to EV. I'm sure there's a bunch out there, but I'd be fascinated by how you do it. Your spark is contagious though. Can't wait.

LokiBeat

Yeah, he slipped into Data/LeForge mode with some tachyon beams there for a minute, didn't he? Still, I've been used to tuning out the technical jargon as he pretty much eventually explains..."This makes light go on, fuel go wooosh and make engine go vroom."

LokiBeat

Ah damn, good luck on your project! I love to see more of the nissan 280z. I used personally the me221 and it worked flawlessly.

bartjuhhh

Oh shoot I forgot to mention that I’m selling every car and replacing them all with motorcycles

Ronald Finger

The plan right now is to just ignore them and pretend there’s no issues 😎 No, I’ll get around to them in a later video, just not sure when that’ll be.

Ronald Finger

Personally, what got me involved in your content originally was your enthusiasm for it. I don't honestly care much about the make or model of vehicle, or even if it is a vehicle. The garage thing has also been terrific. Just do what makes you happy, and I really think the people will want to watch. (Except motorcycles, those literally do jack shit for me..... oh crap, I was trying to be only positive.... oh crap, I'm still typing....) Yay things!

Nate D

What are your plans with the bodywork / rust / frame rails, etc.?

David Block

I honestly cant wait to see what electric work goes into this I find electronic and components very interesting and may be going back to college to study electronic engineering in the UK. Been a huge fan off yours for many years thank you Ronnie for giving me the confidence to work on my car as well. Hello from the UK

Luke I

Full restorations, while romantic, can drain passion and bank accounts pretty quickly; and it sort of misses the point. The joy of a car is in the driving, tinkering and experimenting. Good choice, Ronnie.

Steve Cook

Drop Linux Mint on it Ronnie. As long as the hardware is healthy it will snap back to life!

Steve Cook

It’s actually a 2011! It’s on its last limb though. I often have to resort to percussive maintenance to get it to boot

Ronald Finger

Still rockin’ a 2012 MBPro.? Me too. I presume it’s a 2012 and not a 2011 as that would have died long ago…

Dave Motion

Glad you’ve settled on an idea you’re happy with and I can’t wait to see the outcome! Have you considered a digital cluster as a potential element of this project? Something different to the 300zx cluster swaps

Reece Malanos

The ME221 has only 4 injector and 4 ignition outputs, so full sequential isn’t possible for the 6 cylinder 280Z unfortunately 😔

Ronald Finger

You also where able to use a me221 ecu, i used one in my mx5 and it did support the sequential injection aswell.

bartjuhhh

The fuel system is a gateway drug. :)

Stephen Leary

Can’t wait to see this, i have a friend that has this same exact car and i would be nice to see it come into the future

Ghost Dog314

I have no idea what you’re talking about. But I can’t wait to see you do it …

Papa Bogey

You'd already mentioned your conflict bout where to take this car in the first 280Z ep. Even back then I was hoping you'd go this route.

Great Joe

You do you Ron, it sounds like an interesting and worth while conversion... Just don't forget the comedy!!! lol jk, I know you won't, we love your content!!!

Kevin

absolute gold standard and an artist. I dream of having his skillset and tools

Collin Lennon

I like the direction you are going as a fellow 280z owner, I would like to go all aftermarket EFI myself. there are more than enough purist builds and museum quality cars out there that it would be more fun not only for you but for us to watch something more unique. Looking forward to your build! p.s. can I buy your old distributor

Collin Lennon

I’m pretty stoked for this.

Michael Turner

Whatever you do, it's fine. You blend engineering, self-deprecating humor and love for your craft, so we'll be here for anything you want to show.

Albino Muñoz

On the plus side - insane resource for reference/ideas/troubleshooting.

Corey Pietrzak

lol I don't see this diy sensor build ending well

Jeremie

My Mechanics was a huge deciding factor too! Literally a master class of automotive restoration that truly cannot be topped

Ronald Finger

I like that style of resto, it's what you did with the GPZ, you made it work properly and nothing more, be nice to see you do the conversion, peple can get quite scared of working on automotive electronics but it's not nearly as much of a brain killer as you'd expect once you get stuck in! With your presentation style hopefully it'll encourage those on the fence about trying these sorts of things a bit of a push to either do it, or hire it out.

Adam Grayson

I'm a little bummed it's going to be less of a restoration (granted, there's the insane My Mechanics Datsun rebuild for that), but have to respect the self awareness not to commit a disproportionate amount of time to something you aren't as passionate about as you were with the Fiero. And already some really cool gadgetry/improvements to look forward to!

Corey Pietrzak

That sound also got me so many times during editing. I was going crazy until I realized it was baked into the audio haha. Yes, I have a bunch of footage filmed from 2019 when I got the Interceptor running, but the scope of that project is going to be far from a revival/restoration so it more than likely won't make it to air. I might edit it for a Patreon exclusive thing though!

Ronald Finger

Couple things Mr. Ronnie (I got the name from your merch store), that discord sound at 3:45 got me, it still hurts seeing the leaking gas tank again on the GPZ, and holy crap I am so excited for this future episode! Did you once say in the Fiero series that you filmed a couple episodes of the Honda Interceptor to get it running? I thought I'd ask to waste your time instead of mine :)

Noah Kittleson

Super cool! Like, way cool. It's really fun the technical kind of projects you tackle, like this and the mold you made to cast your own mount for the motorcycle

Nubbles

Hell ya I was waiting for this!
