Pitch Review (in the EU) Part Deux

Dear Insane Children,

We have in-hand an updated version of the Alice: Asylum PPT! That means it's time for another review of the license presentation - this time full of art and fury. Yay!

For those of you in the UK/EU - Good News: We're starting this week's live stream May 30th, 7PM HKT, 12PM London Time. Click THIS LINK to set a reminder so you can join us and provide feedback in real time.

For those of you NOT in the EU-ish time zone - sorry :( You'll be sleeping (or just waking up) for this one, but the stream will post to YouTube for later viewing and feedback.

Here's a sample (3 out of 20 pages) of what we're looking at during this week's stream...

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THINGS HOLY - The text / info contained here IS NOT FINAL. The first person to write "Only 10-12 hour play experience?!?!?" is going to get Lulu mailed to their house for a biting (please mail her back when she's done biting you)!

We'll talk about text details during the live stream - and work to make all this stuff final ASAP. When the text is final I'll tell you, "This text is final" - and THAT is the time when you can comment on specifics ;)

For this review we're looking at the general content of the PPT; the overall art / presentation of it; reviewing for clarity, flow, etc.

I look forward to seeing all of EU on the live stream tomorrow!

Update on Embroidered Patches and Chaos Coins:

The coin factory is working on a mold for manufacturing. We should be able to see an actual coin in a week or so. We're also looking at a "floating" frame to include with each Chaos Coin... something like this:

Our goal is to include the frame for free (as part of the current $35 pledge reward when we hit 2000 Patrons). I just think it would be nice for the coin to come with a display case so you can store it and show it off at the same time. What do you think? Would you prefer this or a "coin box" - we need to choose one or the other...

For the Embroidered Patches - the factory says they will be finished with manufacturing on June 1st at the latest. Everything will then be sent to our warehouse in Shenzhen. From there it's 20~30 days for delivery around the world. So... fingers crossed, you should have these in your anxious little hands by end of June.

From Shanghai with Love,

-American (and Lulu)

Pitch Review (in the EU) Part Deux

Comments

I hope it will playable on PC.

Will the game be available in Italian?

I'm definitely interested in a steelbook version!!

Is there any chance to get informations during the E3?

That's some money your talking there.

I love to say it again: please do a Steelcase\Steelbook version! A lot of us love them and would prefer to buy them -over a normal version (or a Key)-just to keep that in mind. ^_^ Thx for the stream and i am happy i won the patches <3.

Jessi St.

I dont mind coin box or floating frame. Just want to make sure can take the coin out of the frame . I want to be able to carry it or show it off :)

I know it has been said, but remember guys....we are at least a year off before development even starts, this is the concept phase...everything you see is subject to change. Even up to beta phase, things can change quite a bit. Trust in the quality we have come to expect from American McGee and their team.

Holy comments! I actually like the idea of 10 hr play. Madness returns felt way too long. Incredible story, though. Is the therapist going to come in at the end of this game or not yet in the timeline?

Send Lulu please, because that 10-12 hour text made me briefly consider un-backing despite my super invested love until I read the full post! <3

Floating coin frame, please. Also, will the game be set up for the full capabilities of the XBOX One X? I agree with Sara Damm post regarding numbering stages of grief. Also, one can skip a 'stage' or fall back to a previous stage depending on their psychological makeup (strength, weakness, past experiences, readiness for the event, etc.) and external events - like making a wrong turn and finding yourself back where you started. Really enjoying the art and looking forward to the game.

Sorry I missed the stream, work got a bit hectic, we have a deadline coming this Friday. However, currently watching it now and making some small notes on the way, slowly evolving to a wall of text: EA PRESENTATION: Page 2: Instead of "redeem" use "boost". Page 3: Instead of "Design & Creative" use something like "Creative Team" or maybe even "Creation Team". (Team Creation, if you're cheeky) Page 3: Instead of "Headed" use "Lead by American McGee". Page 3: There's no such thing as "too much art", especially on a page talking about artists, designers, animators and producers. Page 4 + 5: American's got the right idea! Page 6: Don't number the stages of grief, first of the 5 is hard to read, secondly you already talked about having several more. The ones you've listed already can just be examples, no need to list it all. :) Page 7: If possible, use some different art for Alice and Cheshire? We already saw this on page 2 and there is, at least of Alice, some new delicious art. (A bit nit-picky I know but those are some of my 2 cents) Page 7: Isn't Cheshire more of a Guide/Oracle as apposed to a Companion? He's not exactly Alice's pet side-kick but you call for him when you need help and guides you through Wonderland. Page 8: Better hair physics! (And Physics/Collisions in general! :P) Page 8: Regarding Time Manipulation, doesn't Alice sorta kinda have that feel already in Hysteria Mood? (Of course if Hysteria is out, then no problem!) Page 8: Lock-on combat is really good in Madness Return, sometimes too good if you're no good at switching on and off during combat :P Page 8: Stealth + surprise attack enemy = instant kill? Page 9: Thoughts on regular donations? Or gathering money from Patreons or if you guys still make videos and run donation boxes where perhaps the money can go uncut to the game development? Other pages is covered by your comments during the stream :) PATREON COMMENTS: Regarding the coins in game: Silver for regular nameless coins, gold for Patreon treasure-hunt coins.

Related to American's comment during the live stream, where he mentioned lock mechanisms for combat sequences being terrible. Would it be possible/better to implement a sort of "soft" locking mechanism similar to the one found in Hellblade? In such a system, you are automatically locked onto the enemy in front of you. However, if you look away or parry another enemy, than the focus shifts to this next opponent. As a combat locking mechanism, it feels more fluid than anything I have experienced on console so far.

Floating frame looks nice. Can you make floating box with a smoke effect on the glass? Like it comes from the coin or from under the bottom? Like smoke from fire?

The floating frame looks good love fluffy Cheshire .

I love that coin. It's stunning and I'm so getting it either way. However, I hope to get a floating frame. I know that if I get it in a box it will just stay in that Damn box in the closet. The presentation looks good but the flames on the story label is a hard pass. Maybe also blur the background so the text stand out. Bring Fluffy Chesh back!

Aww man I won't be able to watch the entire stream due too personal responsibility. But that's okay I really like what you have going, and the coins are looking awesome. I'm definitely going to raise my pledge when it gets closer to 2000.

Lucas Severin

I like the look of the three proposal samples. It would certainly get an "I do" from me (: It looks exciting, it looks explosive and full of action. If you haven't done so already, perhaps make the layout of some of the other pages reflect other aspects of the game; puzzles, contemplation and soul-searching are perhaps more bleak in colours? Showcase some of the quirky details, that makes our Alice games instantly recognizable. I love the ideah of the floating of coin box! I will suggest making the frame of the box in some dark, maybe mat, wood, perhaps with some dents and scratches to make it look extra Alice-y. The coin itself I think is perfect. And yaaaaay for the patches! I'm so excited to receive them! :D

They presentation is some lovely, gorey eyecandy, and the text is short and informative :) I think whoever will be at the presentation won't get bored with the slides even if they have to look at them for 10 minutes or more each. As for the coin, awesome, having it either a case or frame is good with me but I think the frame would definitely be better so that you don't loose your coin or it just sits somewhere collecting dust. And it'll also be great for you, as a business, to have it hanging as a conversation starter in various homes for possible future fans/backers :) Can't wait to receive the coin <3

Different question - did you already think about soundtrack? Found song on YT (appropriately named "Alice") - incredible fit for this game series! Here's link: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_-FnYmhZWo" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_-FnYmhZWo</a> I personally think, that soundtrack can ascend game from great to god-like! Examples of incredible soundtracks (IMHO) are: NieR: Automata, Mirror's Edge (both parts), Mass Effect series, Transistor, To the Moon, Celeste, Undertale, some Need for Speed entries.

I rather have the floating coin frame! that would look really cool

I reallly like the floating coin idea so you can see both sides an it just looks really nice. LuLu the reinforcement one pooch team haha. I think the presentations look really nice. an my insomnia finally comes in handy cause it will be 6am here

I love the frame idea and that first Rook pic is awesome ,looking forward to more of your awesome work, bummed i may have to miss the live show but happy our fellows will have some Quality time with you guys . Also i'm hoping that the Queen Pic might be Available for purchase or art print as it is my Favorite and i'd love to have it on my wall or some other sort of Memorabilia

I think the floating frame is cool especially if the coins in game actually float in air in a similar manner! There's also keychains with metal frames to fit collectors coins into to carry around as keychains if that sounds interesting to consider.

nopedia

The 2000 goal won't be reached soon. Plenty of time to save money in my opinion.

Make Nine Inch Nails great again

I love the idea of the frame, but I know it can get costly to send them out like that. I'm happy with whatever is decided. 😊

The second slide is a bit much, no need to mention its an origin story twice, the other slides are very exciting and simple to read.

The floating frame would display nicely along my other Alice collectibles, so that'd be vote. Alas, I'll probably miss this livestream, but looking forward to watching it afterwards to see everything!

On the contrary, warm tones are anti eye straining. Hints why blue filters on electronics use a orangeish/reddish tone.

I am so excited for this. It's going to be truly amazing guys! The pitch is spot on and includes a lot in what the fans would like to see :) the coins look so great. But sadly June is the month I will be very low on money so happened to come at a bad time for me. But would love to buy it off mysterious once I have the funds :) super excited to get my patches!! Can't wait to see more from you guys. See you during the live stream! And is the offer still good to send lulu but only for some quick pets?

The cat looks very very cool one the coin and it totally works together with the chaos symbol on the other side and really love the big smile of the cat. For myself I woud prefer the "floating" frame it really have a magical touch (even if we all know that the coin is not floating by themselvs :D ......or maybe the coin is floating by themselve O.o :D )

That is one badass coin

Loving the design on the coin. The floating display is a nice touch, but I'd personally choose a box.

Everything looks awesome! Great job! I would like the floating display or box.. but if I had to choose then the box.

The presentation tho in its early stages looks beautiful! I love everything about it! I also love the new updated Straight jacket Alice πŸ’˜ I love the coin! I'm fine with either packaging gram or box I'm just excited to have the coin😊

SHE LOOKS SO GOOD!!

The presentation looks amazing. Only the Story slide might be a bit hard to read with the busy background and the bright yellow bits behind the letters. Other than that, it looks great. Also, I vote for the coin frame!

Lol, look at that buff soldier. I love the presentation for the new game. It looks classic and great. Is there no possible way for the coin to go back to its previous design? Btw there is no need for a coin box, true it looks nice but imagine the delivery fee. A small sack or something would be more than enough.

Saleh Abu-Rashid

The slides are looking great! I like the layout and consistent theme across all the slides. I'm concern with the saturation and extreme warm tone of the slides. It might hurt the viewer's eyes if they look for a long time and if you have a lot of slides it might put too much strain on our eyes. Perhaps you could reduce the saturation or add in a bit of cooler colour onto the slides? PS. The floating frame/box is such a cool idea

Sorry for the long comment! I haven't been able to give feedback for a while now because of school and work!

I really love the design for the coin! I almost missed seeing the detail along the outer edge of the coin, I ended up doing a double take! I love how intricate the design is; simple, but the viewer's eye still has plenty to look at. I also like the idea of a floating display case. I have a dog who loves to chew on things, and I would be very upset if she were to get ahold of it! I think the PPT is coming along nicely. For me, it really looks and feels like an Alice game, but still has its own charm (based off the more recent prints we have seen). I'm really looking forward to this!

And I also have to say, American, your mind is delightfully twisted and I very much appreciate your games, and art. Even enjoyed Scrapland. I appreciate your dedication to your work sir, and happily am a patreon for your upcoming title. Stay well, and keep us wanting more.

Is there any chance that the first 2 games could make a comeback to the Nintendo switch?

Like the presentation, slick and (brevity BEING the source of wit) short. The fact that each page is styled like an art card with mad lovely illustrations makes for repeating viewings, and the bullet points keep things on point. Nice!

Harry

I vote floating box too. Also the ppt is looking great!

Chaussette

I can't remember. Did Alice: Madness Returns come out for the PlayStation 3? Edit: Yes. As the PS logo is being shown along with the others. However note this is not final, but it is (as of now) there.

I vote for the floating box and i like the design on the chaos coin, i think the coin looks ready, doesn't have to be more details and i hope to God this game gets made.

Something engraved on the box/frame would be nice. American just let me know that the coins will (may change at a later date American? πŸ™) not be engraved so having the frame/box engraved would be nice.

10-12 hour games means two years for me. XD I get super distracted and a game is not over until I have absolutely nothing else I can do.

The floating box would be great and I hope I can join the Livestream, everything looks great and I can't wait to play it, even if it's really 10 - 12 hours of playtime ;)

St. Thomas

I vote floating box

Can I complain about the 12-hour experience please? I'd love to have all the adorableness of Lulu coming to bite me. I promise to mail her back in good condition after I've taken a few pictures.

Rosuav

I'd be happy with a Frame or a Floating box. Guess this ranks as the least helpful comment I have ever made.

I think I've seen you make this comment (regarding name on coin) before and it has me worried that you think your name will be engraved/stamped on the actual physical coin. That is NOT the case. Every coin will be the same - just like the coins in your pocket - because that's how it works when we mass produce something. You name goes on the *virtual* coin - the one in the game. As for where your name is displayed in-game ... it'll be something you bring up via a button-press (like an 'inspect' function). It's not going to be floating around in-game messing up the visuals ;) And you're free to buy as many copies of the game as you like ;)

American McGee

OMG Great. Yet another game I'll be buying twice (Nintendo Switch &amp; Xbox One) except for this time I have no problem in doing so. Of a matter of fact, I want to! ^^ LOL Had you going there, didn't I? As for the Chaos Coin I looks amazing. I'm still interested in where our name is going (I'm just nosey). I also think it would be cool to have them numbered. I really like the floating frame, but maybe have it sandwiched between two panes of glass, with brushed screws in the corners so that it looks stylish (for display), but that the option is there if you really need/want to take it out.

I love the floating frame as well and also agree. I feel there should be a way to take it out if you need/what to do so. If a coin box, if would like something very premium, but that would increase the cost for sure. I also agree something is off with his head.

Floating coin frame please! It would be a great way to storage, display AND preserve the coin. So glad your clarified about the 12h experience, because that really got me worried.

Priscila Nosoma

The floating box frame is a nice way to display it so I would be happy with that, though honestly I would be happy with it no matter what. The proposal looks beautiful I can't see a single thing wrong with the set up, with each update it looks even more Alice. I'll be eagerly and patiently awaiting those beautiful patches.

I love the new fierce attitude of Alice in straight jacket.

Make Nine Inch Nails great again

The time works quite well for me surprisingly. That's around the time I get home from work. Yay! The PPT is looking amazing! Keep rolling with that! &lt;3 (Though still unsure about the young Cheshire Cat design... Mainly the face and head shape. Too round and cartoony. I know that's not final either, but just saying.) 10-12 hours... I'm SO glad that's not final. ( ̄~ ̄;οΌ‰ The Chaos Coin.. Oh, my, oh. *Drools* I would love the floating frame, perfect for display. Though it would be a pain to take out the coin and put back in if I needed to... Hmm.

I love the Slides! I prefer them to the old one that looked quite monotone. I would rather have a coin box... maybe something like a wedding ring box with something engraved on it, so that if you leave it open the coin is still displayed and you can take it out with no issue. I'm so happy about this stream so I won't have to be awake at 3a.m. to watch it! Thank you from Italy!

Lionor_

I'm a fan of the floating coin frame idea ✌️

Exciting times :)

So are we going to have it for PlayStation 4?

About coin - I actually would prefer the "coin box", so I would be able to take it out sometimes. Other than that - as EU resident, cannot wait for stream!

Only 10-12 hour play experience?!?!? (now where’s my Lulu?) (totally kidding, the PPT could hardly look more terrific, astounding work!)

Been a while since i've been this excited about a game 😁🀘
