Brandon is a little overwhelmed by his influences to the point where he can't really settle into anything proper. But I enjoyed aspects of the film. Mia Goth is just....I'm obsessed with her. She's so terrifying. She's the Harley Quinn we need, but don't deserve. XD Will try and get my review out soon. Hope you guys are doing well.

The picture demands a second viewing. I liked it better the second time and could easily fire it up right now. I see it as initiation, loss of ego, blood sacrifice and rebirth. It's similar to his first film in this way. James asks right at the start: "Where are we?" Ironic, hilarious, neurotic and horrifying. What more can you ask for?

Anyway, an ice storm has hit all of Southeast Michigan leaving hundreds of thousands of us, myself included, without power for at least a day now in 30° weather at the time of posting this. Another reason to hate winter up here.

2023-02-23 22:30:05 +0000 UTCI agree. I really enjoyed the experience but I found the satire and the way the aesthetic is used to support it was ultimately really unfocused. Between this, X, and High Life, Mia Goth is in an absurd amount of movies with a certain bodily fluid in them lol. But loved her performance in this. Still think Pearl was the best use of her talents so far though.

2023-02-23 22:24:50 +0000 UTCI think it was always meant to be a comedy/satire, and the camp elements reveal themselves early on. I just don't think a lot of these genre devices are very focused, nor to they build to anything satisfying.
