Today I'd like to discuss one of the most simple but fun conversations an artist can have - What is art to you? And, how would you define it?

I disagree with your interpretation of “bringing an idea into reality. Art does not require and idea become art. I had a protracted debate on art with a poet some 40 years ago. We came up with 2 concepts.
1) Scientists is about exploring reality and making sense of it. Imagining a possibility and exploring its truth.
Engineers manipulate reality to change reality.
Artists explore emotion and manipulate emotion.
We are all scientists, engineers and artists. A baby learning to walk is an engineering feat, Learning that you don’t like the taste of beetroot is a scientific experiment, falling in love is an act of art.
This was a good start but it did not go far enough.
2) We had to go further than this. The classic question is, is a tree art? When you strip everything away we came up with the simple definition that art is “any positive intention or action by a sentient being to create/provoke an emotional response in themselves or another sentient being”. A tree is not art but if you stop to look at it in that moment it becomes art for you because you chose to look at it and derive pleasure from that moment.
Whether you, the reader, agree or not. If this prose made you smile, frown, scoff, challenge, think or some other response then in itself it is a piece of my art.
