The Red Candle

I didn't realize I had taken so many of these and how many turned out good so I have even more I could edit. These are light edits to fix the color and keep the details. I've been wanting to work on a candle series of photos, but I need practice to get the lighting right. I might do that one day. This feels so perfect for Halloween. I intend to be inspired by these and do some deep edits on a few select ones if I can choose a few. I love to be delightfully surprised. I wouldn't say I did an amazing job with lighting my first time. I realize in hindsight that I would've preferred a back lighting over the head instead. I have been trying to be more creative ideas for reference sets, and it is really cool. I'm hoping it'll propel me to continue to do something unique. This is mostly lit witht he candle, but I used a flash covered in a lot of fabric for a bit of additional light. I know there is a way to use strobes to mimic candle light which will take a bit more experimentation. I don't know why I didn't think of it at the time. I still kind of am obsessed with these and I'm glad I did them for my own self esteem. I've been feeling all kinds of insecure about myself and the way I look and the way I can model, partially brought on from getting so sick recently. I think it's normal though. Everyone I talk to goes through these insecure periods. The one thing I know whenever I do go through them is to not stop or give up, because feeling like I didn't get it right or I'm not doing well isn't a reason to give up. Usually the new inspiration or answer is in a new perspective or experimentation. While getting sick recently wasn't super great for a lot of the obvious reasons it did help me focus on one thing at a time, work slower, and stay on task by priorizing what's important to me while putting any insecurities or worries about what other people thought about me out of my mind. I really have needed to stay focused on what I care about in the last few weeks and that's shown me another perspective on myself, life and art. I say all this to remind you to keep creating and finding yourself because we all get stuck and we don't do an amazing job every time. We just can't. But that doesn't take away from all the incredible things we can do and make if we keep looking for our paths.
