A Comic About Making Meaningful Art

I'll try to keep this somewhat concise, since the comic itself is so text heavy. This comic is a little bit meandering and stream of consciousness, and attempt to sort through my struggles with creating something that has depth to it, and also a sort of temperature check on the state of arts and culture in our society (not good!)

Because its a little all over the place, there are some things I worry I didn't elaborate on enough, not wanting to make it too dense. I'm sure people will give me shit about the 100 Gecs and PC Music stuff, and I wish I could pull up some more examples of the "intentional meaninglessness" that is bred in online media (mmmmr. boop? tons of shitty memes and tiktok videos? Let me know if you can think of good examples.) and to try and make clear that it isn't the same as something like DaDa; it seems like more of a defense mechanism, or an easy out, as opposed to trying to make an intentional artistic point.

I also feel a little weird about turning such an analytic, dare I say philosophical, comic into a plug for Kaiji at the end. Still, this comic is not only analytical but personal, so it felt relevant in that sense; a little bit of insight into the sort of stuff that resonates with me, that inspires me.

Overall, one of the comics I'm proudest of, despite being absurdly dense. Personal, analytical, with some comic relief thrown in for good measure. Maybe I'll rework it into something a little more polished and complete in the future.

This comic made me bite the bullet on becoming a Patron

He was a British music critic whos work focused on the themes of the comic- the weird dreamlike state we find ourselves in, the inability to escape nostalgia and do something new, etc etc. You might like him

i totally agree, its real easy to see these comments like this as randos being nice for clout or something cynical like that but its good to remember that everytime someone says that they say it bc theyre a real human being who felt strongly about something you made!!!

Ya, the comic relief is good in this one, but I can't help but be a bit sad that you're unhappy with being "the funny meme man." I mean, your stuff feels deeper than just HEY I RECOGNIZE THIS MAYMAY REFERENCE THIS MEANS IT'S FUNNY. It cuts and it delivers a good punchline. Also, I love the tiny near-stick men in the voting comic and the halfgod singing one.
