Full week ahead
Added 2021-02-21 18:44:17 +0000 UTCLockdown teaching is very much going into full-on wacko mode, with remote and in-person happening at the same time. Unfortunately, it seems we haven't been cloned yet. Ah well.
On the bright side, my daughter just appeared with an armful of stuffed toys and posed with cats, wolves (which can double as a fox), and falcons, as well as an imaginary fawn, so I do hope to scratch out some sketching time!

What I wouldn't give to just mute them in-person! So much easier than detention! We haven't had any hybrid classes as in "I'm in the classroom, teaching both the ones present and the ones at home". It does seem slightly better than teaching one half in the classroom in the morning and the other from home on the afternoon, but not by much...

I can focus on the classroom in front of me or on the kids on the other side of the screen, but not both at once. Adding troubles with technology and the tendency of the present students to act up as soon as you try to troubleshoot for the online folks... I was so glad when the holidays finally started (early). Teaching only online was... slightly better, although the younger kids (grade 5-6) are definitely easier to reach than the teens (some of whom are paying, at best, cursory attention to the lesson while playing Fortnite). Now our tenth-graders are back in full force, full-time, which is... interesting. A lot of them seem to have forgotten everything about classroom behaviour. Suddenly, they have to keep quiet again instead of just muting their microphone... I also hear you on the "being silent to each other in their breakout rooms" thing. One or two kids do all the work, and the others might not even listen. Just as in real-life group work, but even harder to work against! Good luck with the cloning or, failing that, with the multitasking... :/
