Had a thought this morning -- what about young Beren? He came to be so close to the animals of Dorthonion that he "ate no flesh." I can well imagine that even as a child he was protective of small animals. What about a chipmunk? Or a returning a young bird to a nest? (My first thought was a mouse; that might be too close to Finrod, but considering how close they became in the end, it could be a nice match.)
