Plans for 1.14

Hey guys! After the general release of 1.13 on Tuesday, I’ve been working this week on the story for 1.14. It will continue the main mission in Bangkok.

I’ve had lots of feedback on 1.13 – thanks to everybody who’s reached out to me, here and on other platforms, to let me know what they think.

Most of the feedback was positive and encouraging – thank you guys 🥰. The main critiques were (a) that 1.13 is too linear and (b) that the heroine is missing the depth and characterisation that was being built up in the youth “Lifepath” section from previous versions.

Some astute observers deduced that these things are linked, which I think is correct.  In a future version we plan to restore the Lifepath and connect it to the main quest, and as part of doing that we’ll revisit the events in 1.13 to build in more choices and character options.

That said, it’s important to keep in mind that we’re still in the stage where we’re setting up the pieces of the story. We had to introduce several new locations and characters in this update, and there are still others that we need to establish before the heroine’s mission can truly open up (e.g. organised crime, the bosses and bargirls in the brothel, etc).

(I see it as like the first act of Mass Effect; Shepard kind of gets led around by the nose while the story sets up the various important characters and conflicts that Shep will need to navigate later.)

R&R
I took the weekend off (except for writing this report) in order to recharge better for next week, which will be moar writing 1.14. 1.14 is going well; I’m happy with the storyboard, and we’ve already got the first new scene up and working in the engine, so we’re making good progress. I’m looking forward to getting cracking again in the morning, but I also needed a couple days to veg out 🤤

Okay, that’s all for now. Have a great Sunday, everyone, and I’ll report back on progress next week!

Welcome to the party, pal. :-D I agree with this and I think that uni should be opened up a little when we revisit it, so in each playthrough you can have a different set of sexy "uni experiences" based on the heroine's background and the choices she makes at uni. More on this Soon™

This is basically the story function of the Neuroticism stat (which is temporarily locked at 0 until we restore the Lifepath). Garetor's observation about it carrying some benefits is astute – agents with very low Neuroticism may be mentally resilient, but they may also not respect the environment enough (because they're not anxious about it). I think a certain level of neuroticism is probably helpful for a spy in some ways.

Hi. First time commenter here. I really liked 1.13 but what I really wish I could play right now is the protagonist's continued journey through college. I would really love to get back to a scene where she blows one of her professors for a better grade. I can also envision her drunkenly signing up to a wet t shirt contest during spring break on her freshman year. Or maybe going to New Orleans for Mardi Gras if she's a yank and flashing guys for beads. Our girl still has two more years of uni to go through which would give players the possibility to really design her character to their liking, something which will later come through in her espionage work

I think this would be a good idea more if it gave some benefits as well. Like how exhibitionist lets you get through some things easier by just being more "game", I would say "anxious" should give you a chance to notice things that more self-assured women might not.

Garetor

I was wondering about something like an optional anxiety trait or something? Ie one that would make you much more likely to fail dice rolls (-2 to all rolls for example). I would oft find myself going back to fail dice rolls on purpose because I wanted my agent to be forced to do things, that was just the type of story I wanted this time. but wont want every time i play.
