MoSCoW analysis

Last Wednesday, we carried out a "MoSCoW analysis" of what needed to be done before we could release an Early Access version of 1.5.  A MoSCoW analysis is a list of incomplete tasks, organised into 4 categories: Must be done, Should be done, Could be done, and Won't be done (in this version).

Today we finished the last M task, so the 1.5 Early Access will be released to $5 Operators+ tomorrow.  A general release will follow on Wed Aug 14th.

On one claw I'd love to keep working on it for a few more days – tomorrow's release is going to be missing lots of features and content that I really wanted to add (the S, C and W tasks on the list).  On the other claw, I'm excited to get this out to the community so you can play the version we've been playing for ages.

I hope you love it, and I know that you'll help us improve it.  We're going to get in one more dev day tomorrow, then release the Early Access version at the end of the day.

See you tomorrow!

It didn't make this release, but I love it and it will be back!

Thanks N P, I really appreciate the supportive and thoughtful feedback. <3

Apparently lol.

.. that's classified.

I second the idea to keep the diacritics if you are so inclined!

Aaron

I think you should hold on to your diacritical idealism. Don't just give up the things you stand for, no matter their relevance in the grand scheme of things. Friends should let friends have their quirks, too.

Please, include FA as an example at your next engineering planning meeting.

Alas, if the Trello is to be trusted, it was dropped. A shame, it and the Resting Bitch Face were two aesthetics I was looking forward to, but I can't blame them for making tough calls.

Alliterative Acolyte

Don’t take that wish literally, of course. You make that game smutty as possible!

Notalie Portman

I want to congratulate you on your implementation of MoSCoW. May it serve you well. Also, I think that your daily updates have been a wonderful illustration of the truth that missing deadlines is rarely a matter of people not working hard or making mistakes. I feel that you did just the work you should have done, at a good pace, and the only “miss” was in not knowing ahead of time exactly how much scope it would really involve. That’s a problem for marketing, but isn’t what I’d call and engineering failure. I wish it wasn’t a smut game so I could present it as an example at my next engineering planning meeting.

Ideally, yes. Any Should and Could tasks that aren't finished by the general release will likely be put onto the back burner, because we'll start a new sprint on Thurs 15th that will have its own priorities. We'll probably use the MoSCoW model from day 1 on the next sprint to keep us focused on the critical priorities. More on this during the two weeks, when I'm planning to write up some reflections on 1.5 and why it went so overdue. You're exactly right about Bangkok! We didn't improve the avatar to make the Lifepath better, we improved it to make Bangkok better. I hope that when people play 1.5 they'll recognise that lots of the things we've added are basically prototypes for Bangkok. Also: I think I'm ready to give up on the diaeresis. A friend and mentor of mine called me out on it the other day, saying (words to the effect of) "Crush: nobody who doesn't know how to pronounce the word 'reuse' will be helped by two stupid fucking dots above the U. Please stop doing this."

Please tell me the freckles addition were part of the M tasks :D.

Droliath Estolah

Does this mean that some of the Should and Could tasks will be implemented in the general release? A preliminary good job, too! Even though I think that we're all longing for the Bangkok part, I try to keep in mind that you're more or less making the game engine the same time as you're working on Female Agent. Much of the groundwork made here will be reüsed in the game after FA, I reckon.
