Been testing a few materials over the past few months since I got into dye sub. I have gotten really good results with some materials. I wanted to share which have worked out best for me as of late.
I recorded two videos that explain the different settings I am doing when it comes to printing with my sawgrass dye sub printer, type of print and paper type.
When I mention type of print this may not make a lot of sense unless you own a Sawgrass printer. Sawgrass has it's own settings which determine how much ink goes on the paper. I tried "polyester" setting which is pretty much the default but the ink load seemed a bit low at least for me. So there is a setting in the sawgrass print profile that says "mousepad" which made me think that should put more ink on the paper since a mousepad is spongey meaning it may need more ink to transfer, I was correct. The mousepad setting has actually worked out the best for me. If you have an epson printer you just want to make sure when you print you are going for vivid colors and high quality print so it loads more ink on the paper to transfer it over. I did show I was using 2 types of paper for dye sub, but the original paper the type A I had suggested a while back seems to hold more ink in general giving me slightly better results. Both papers have been really solid overall.

I changed the settings for these to: 320F and 50 seconds. I think leaving them in the heat press for 70 seconds before was creating slight burn marks on them. This setting has been working really well for me. I am also using a heat press where I can control the pressure as well to get more consistent results.
The mesh that I use the most is this banner mesh. I ask the company to print it all black for me and I use the opposite side which by default is white.

I did manage to try a new mesh suggested by a Patron which was PVC instead of vinyl. Has smaller holes and the material itself is a bit stiffer. When heat pressed the material comes out floppy, give it time to cool down before separating it from the dye sub to avoid warping the material. This is a great option for the ones that need the finer mesh and stiffer material. The vision is incredible with these as well.
I got mine originally from ebay:
But walmart online does carry it as well:

Both mesh types are great and both offer amazing vision. Both are really good for dye sub and easy enough to find the material online. The PVC one is white on both sides so you would need to either dye sub the back black as well or paint it black for even better vision.
I love the vinyl mesh that was used on my hyena head, which is a big reason I changed to that mesh over the old vinyl mesh I was using.
