2025-08-05 00:11:49 +0000 UTCThe tiger is the best thing about this movie, and I'm not just saying that because I identify with him 100% (OCD dominates a large part of my life), it's because he's so sweet and funny at the same time. :3 I really liked the movie, and I loved the message that there's beauty in flaws, or in what one believes to be a flaw. uwu

2025-07-19 12:35:30 +0000 UTCA couple of things I have noticed after watching it for the 7th time is at the end of the movie Zoey's yellow hoodie has Derpy (the blue tiger) on it. Oh and during the last song when the girls hug they change outfits to white and they have patterns on them too which I thought was a really cool thing to add to show the girls support Rumi 100%.

Claudie, if you want, you can read it later for your video if you are gonna explore KPDH deeper and post it on YT. Or you could read it on your own and then make a video about other kpdh-related stuff. Suggesting this as an idea. I am writing this in a .docx file which I could email you as soon as I finish. Anyway: 1) A. The idea for this movie came around 9 years ago. At that Time Emmy nominated Creator and executive producer of Kipo and the age of Wonderbeasts Radford Sechrist drew first arts of Rumi, meanwhile his wife Maggie Kang came up with this whole idea and ended up directing the movie (it took 9 years cuz they had a lot of other projects going on. Basically they started really working on it since 2021). B. During this time their daughter was born and they named her after Rumi, their character. Real Rumi voiced young Rumi in the movie and sang that song ‘we are hunters, voices strong’. Another fun fact, Rumi, Mira and Zoey were supposed to be skaters, but it was changed to being pop stars. But they did include that bit when Zoey is skating during “Golden” MV playing in the movie. Another fun fact, real Rumi skates too. Her dad posts video of her on his tiktok (where he also shared some stuff behind the scenes of KPDH). C. The movie was supposed to be 3 hours but Netflix said to cut it. So we could’ve seen more story behind Mira, Zoey, there are also concept arts of Rujinu’s date in the aquarium where Jinu was reaching to Rumi’s face and saying, “You should let your hair down sometimes, Rumi. As far as I’m concerned, you’re just as beautiful with the cracks showing.” *then they kiss*. So we would’ve probably seen Rumi with her hair down.. There is also a whole storyboard where Rumi with her patterns glowing came to her mother’s grave and she saw some flashbacks of her parents holding her, looked very emotional and intense (I have these all saved on my tiktok, I could create a folder for you, Claudie, to react to as you mentioned. I can send the link so you would check some vids out and tell me if I should add all those vids where I found out all this info I’m referring to). 2) About the voice actors: -Rumi: Arden Cho (speaking voice) and EJAE (vocals) ... -Mira: May Hong (speaking voice) and Audrey Nuna (vocals) ... -Zoey: Ji-young Yoo (speaking voice) and Rei Ami (vocals) ... -Jinu: Ahn Hyo-seop (speaking voice) and Andrew Choi (vocals) A. There’s a vocal coach on YT that reacted to KPDH song and when she heard “Golden”, Rumi’s parts, she was like, “OMG, it’s incredible but why would they do it to the girl” saying kinda jokingly, meaning it’s so hard to hit those high notes, and someone said in the comments, “Funny thing, ‘the girl’ actually did it to herself as she wrote this song”. So Ejae everybody. She is a South Korean and American singer-songwriter and record producer who would usually stay behind the scenes. But as others say, she finally got a proper recognition with KPDH’s success. She worked with a lot of famous k-pop bands like Red Velvet, aespa, Le Sserafim, Nmixx, Kard and Twice. Interesting, that she started her career working with SM Entertainment and this is where she met Andrew Choi (she sang Jinu’s parts). And when things didn’t work out (I haven’t digged deeper so u can correct me with this one), Andrew helped her out. Years later, when she was chosen to sing Rumi’s parts, Ejae suggested Andrew for that role for Jinu. And they sang “Free” together. This is simply wholesome. Also, Ejae was the one who sang that song in the beginning when we are being introduced to Hunters. That song is called ‘hunter’s mantra’, the translation of those lyrics: “We will sing to light up the darkness. We will sing with this strong voice. We will heal this world.” Anyway, let’s move on. B. Jeong-yeon, Ji-hyo and Chae-young from Twice, a quite popular k-pop girl group with 9 members in it (I used to listen to some of their songs and it was, like, 6 years ago or so), performed with their version of “Takedown” that we hear during the credits at the end of the movie. Before – all those songs were sang by Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami (she is also both Korean and American which suits her character as well). C. Golden was produced by Teddy Park and other Blacklabel producer. Teddy Park worked with such famous singers as Sabrina Carpenter and Drake, also he is the producer of Blackpink (another very popular k-pop band. For me personally, Huntr/x vs Saja Boys reminded of Blackpink vs BTS, or how you mentioned too, of K/DA vs Heartsteel. Gave similar vibes) 3. Let’s talk about some Korean references: food, clothes, terms, weapons, that tiger and the bird. A. Every time we see food on the screen, it’s authentic. B. That opening scene on the plane, girls are wearing clothes that has a lot of Korean symbols: those knots attached to girls’ shorts, of that lotus on Zoey’s short. Also if you look closer, on Rumi’s jacket her name is written twice: RUMI in big red letters and then rrrrrrrumi on top of it. Cool, huh. Also, first hunters are wearing traditional Korean clothes that is called Hanbok. C. Some Korean words: ramyun/ramen is Korean famous noodles, there were 2 times when girls said, “kaja kaja kajaaa” which means “Let’s go” in Korean. Also, Rumi said, “We just wanted to stop by and congratulate our hoobaes on their debut-”. “Hoobae” refers to someone junior to you in experience or age, especially in school, work, or other hierarchical settings. It’s often used when seniors (선배, seonbae) refer to their juniors (hoobaes). Zoey is also called a ”Maknae” which means “the youngest person in a group.” It’s often used in families, friend groups, K-pop groups or teams, which is the case. I am pretty sure I also heard “oppa” from Jinu’s sister when those gates closed. “Oppa” means ‘older brother’ but only when spoken by a female. It can be used by a younger girl that calls her older biological brother, or if a female calls an older male friend, or it can be used by girls who call their bfs or crushes. About Saja Boys. In the movie you can see them dressed in such ‘robes’ and hats that would the Grim Reapers (Jeoseung Saja, here’s the name for the band) wear, and according to the mythology, they would lead souls into the underworld. Saja also means ‘lion’ in Korean, that explains the lion emblem for the band. Someone also mentioned that is sounds similar to ‘lying’, so it could have a triple meaning. D. there’s a whole video on tiktok by @katchowrites where she explained how girls’ weapons are more ceremonial weapons from Korean history than battle weapons. All those weapons were usually used to scare evil forces away and would be used while dancing in ceremonies. Rumi’s sword has respective constellations on it, Zoey’s weapons were actually used by shamans while they were dancing, and Mira’s polearm is the only weapon that was used in both – ceremonial dances and battles. E. I liked how they included anime references (those cartoonish expressions) and k-drama ones. So the whole sequence with Rumi seeing Jinu for the first time, their shoulder touch and falling is so k-drama coded, they even used a Korean typical song, smth that would usually be played in such moments in Korean dramas. Then I found out it is an actual Korean OST from Korean drama called “Business Proposal” where the main character is played by the same actor that voiced Jinu, Ahn Hyo-seop. And in that drama there was a similar scene between main a female and a male characters. That was so funny to me and wholesome at the same time. Even the way Saja boys and Huntr/x were trying to show who can bow lower (which in Asia is the way to show your respect: the lower bow, the more recpectful), I totally loved that reference. There are actual records of such funny moments from real Korean variety shows.
