I think it’s highly unlikely that Allison saw the outside as presented on the screens and cleaned anyway; she would have known that this would potentially put Holston in danger by making him follow. So I think we can assume that at least part of the video feed is manipulated. Having the population see the cleaners die is even more important than presenting a barren landscape to keep up the narrative of a deadly world outside. So we can also assume that their death is either assured by poisoning them or that the video of their death is also fake. Given the importance of control over what people see happening outside, I wonder why any part of the video would be real. Why take the risk of the cleaners signaling anything if it could just all be faked, including the cleaning?
