Severance | S2 Ep5

Well... here we are again. Back inside, in Lumon.

Tension is rising back at camp, Helly is baffled (as am I), and Dylan finds an important clue, when saying goodbye to Irv.

What's gonna happen now...?

Mark & Helly having their Caitvi Oil & Water moment

Your outie was going to be a... father? Surely not. What an episode! Dylan you absolute legend! Alright onto episode 6, bye 😀

Luiz

For all the reasons mentioned before in comments, this is obviously Helly R. again. For me the most obvious visual sign was the difference in the way she walks. If you watch her now walking down the floor with the others you can see the swing in her step again. What a fantastic actress...😊 Fascinating for me is that Mark is actually right, Irv (or any other innie for that matter) is never really dead as long as his outie lives and isn't reintegrated with his innie. He is indeed on a looong cruise...🤔😅🙈 I found it very intersting when Helly said "How could SHE do this, steal MY indentity, capture MY body." Helena could say exactly the same about Helly from her perspective and would be right, too. Helena is not to blame for "betraying" her innie, but for creating her in the first place. That is the true crime. Now you have two persons sharing one body for the rest of their lives, as long as reintegration doesn't work properly. Up to now I think Ms. Huang is a good follower of the Kier cult. Maybe she got there through some youth organization of the cult. I grew up being a part of a communist youth organization (membership was mandatory) and I know a child growing up in a cult when I see one...🙈 Innie Dylan is my favorite character of them all. I love him (and Zack Cherrys acting in general) so much...😃 As for "treating the outies as what they are" - I think it means they see them as work slaves, as a tool - not actual human beings - to achieve some greater goal which is represented by Marks wife Gemma...🤔

If you haven't seen it, Apple just released a promo. It is so funny. I had seen the original that someone had created on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8MQj4Gp/

Well, well, well, it looks like Helena is in the same situation as Helly was in season 1, feeling like she has no agency in her body. How times change. Regarding your paranoia on whether it's Helena or Helly, they explicitly show the switch in the elevator this episode to make the audience know it's Helly. Just assume unless we see an indicator (dolly zoom, or elevator chime) there is no Gråkappan shenanigans. Yes, they "offscreen" switched Helly between s1 and 2, but that's what the start of s2 revolves around, and it's moot to repeat an "offscreen switch" from a writing perspective as then we would never trust Helly R again even if she never switched back to Helena.

junnei

Yeah it is mental! Brilliant acting on Brit's part! Hehe maybe I do Claudie mugs too haha

Claudie

Yeah it is him haha I didnt realise!

Claudie

Oooooo good catch

Claudie

Yes realising in heinsight just how much they lie about haha

Claudie

No I feel the same, I feel sorry for Helena too, she seems very lonely!

Claudie

I don't know what's weirder, that they served fruit shaped like Irv's head at his funeral or that they ate it 😅 Maybe it's an unpopular opinion, but I also feel sorry for Helena. She seems to be a victim of her own family and has no control over her life. I love Helly, but I hated Helena in the first season, and I don't anymore

Graciela Farfán

gosh i just can't wait for the next one i keep saying that but this season is so good!

Trish

This was an emotional episode where we see grief, pain, sadness, distress…I need a “pick me up” after this episode! I feel bad for both Mark and Helly, let’s see if they can find it in themselves to trust each other again.

Ruby Nieto

Yes. This and the fact that when we see all the outies descending the elevator one at a time in ep2, hers is the only one that doesn’t make the classic “ding” sound.

James Morrissey

Regarding the “5 months” claim.. in episode two when Milchik is explaining his plan to bring in a refiner from overseas and two more from branch 5X, he explains it’s the best he could do in 48 hours.

James Morrissey

Innie Mark about Irving: He's not dead, he's just not here Outie Mark about Gemma: She's not dead, she's just not here

InBadCompany

Remember how interested "Helly" was in what Irv saw on the outside back in the first episode? She's also the one that pointed out that there were no cameras, so it's safe to talk. And in the end, when everybody's back at their desk, there's a brief shot of her struggling to find the power button for her computer.

Prda

Absolutely- his face becomes more and more heartbroken as he tries to process

Jennyjoy

And the Hang in There poster is literally Dylan during the OTC - hanging on to the switches. The show is so good at the little details! They know how closely the audience pays attention and they drop all kinds of little things Also - Helena could have told them about meeting the goat people and making the map- that happened I think in episode 3 when it was Helly One more- someone had may already have mentioned, that we know it's not Helena because you hear the ding of the elevator when she goes down (when the chip is activated). If you go back you don't hear the ding in episode 1 (meaning the chip never activated and she stayed Helena).

Jennyjoy

That's why Helena lied about Helly R's OTC. And why Irving said "she's been an outie the whole time!" And why she's been so odd in general.

Justin Odum

If you think about it, both Helly and Mark were taken advantage of by Helena as far as the tent. He never would have consented to sleeping with Helena.

Jennyjoy

The part at the very end where Mark finally sees Gemma was heartbreaking. Imagine going through the grief of someone you love passing away, thinking they are dead and gone and then BAM you see them standing right in front of you, and looking like a completely different person! I can't imagine what a shock to the system that would be. Adam Scott did such a marvelous job reacting in that moment, the pain on his face is palpable.

Christina Paz

Yes, completely agree with you here on Mark. I’m replying here since I can’t seem to on my original post.. I actually meant to make a point of Mark feeling conflicted and violated by Helena. I love how the show not only addresses Helly’s feeling of violation, but Marks also (although in a quieter way). I think it’s something a lot of shows tend to forget to do in storylines like this.

Erin

I love how milchick has BEEF with a kid

MAROON

Outie would not know what innie had done RE Mark and Helena.

Matt Quinn

Ah yes the miss Wong realisation

MAROON

Omg hey Helly R

I just checked the time marks. Gory shots during this scene (not very gory but I think you’d want to know about them): 40:37/40:40 40:56/40:58 41:25/41:27 41:31/41:35 Some shots that are not really gory but might still be disturbing: 41:42/41:48 42:09/42:17 42:30/42:31 You’ll know when it’s over. In case there’s any shift between copies—for me “An Apple Original” appears between 00:01 and 00:05.

Can you just imagine being Helly? Being tackled to the ground, only to wake up frigid cold after being nearly drowned, and then to ‘wake up’ in the elevator. Sounds fucking awful 😩 Also-it seems to me that Helena has basically no autonomy. Everyone makes decisions for her (Natalie, Drummond, The Board, and her father). It wouldn’t have had surprised me if she came up with the idea herself to go undercover as Helly. Being able to make her own decisions must’ve been pretty freeing. With innieMark I found it interesting how he grieved innieIrv’s passing. Almost reminded me of how he grieved Peteys death-storing them away and ignoring them. This is also a trait outieMark has as well. Clearly neither Mark handles loss well. On another note…I’d love to have one of those Helly mugs! 😅

Erin

In episode 2, Milchick says he had 48 hours to put everything together, referring to bringing in the new team. So, yes, the 5 month thing was a lie they told to Mark S. This whole season seems to take place over the course of a week or so.

Justin Pritchard

I feel really bad for Helly this ep but I can't be too mad at Mark. It was literally only hours ago he was assaulted by Helena, and he's trying to process that betrayal (in front of someone who he genuinely cares for and also looks exactly like Helena). The innies just get no time to process this stuff.

Helly R

(SPOILER WARNING FOR S2E6) ------------------------------------- Early on in the video you mentioned you don't want to see another gory brain surgery scene, so if you want to be prepared, there is one more near the end of episode 6 of this season and it's worse than the one Helena got in season 1. Just a heads up!

Stefan Jaspers

It was never helly during season 2 until this episode!!!

Ariel

I've had a rough past few hours, OK.
