A woman who isn’t autistic has bravely used her voice to take up an autistic person’s slot on one of the few broadcasters actually still commissioning shit, it has been confirmed.
Karen Hoyland, 30, who classily changed her last name to distance herself from her famous dad, is not autistic herself - but has used her incredible empathy to write an adult woman based on her six-year-old nephew.
Hoyland said: “No, I don’t have autism - but I’ve hired some writers who do, which was really nice of me, especially after their own-voices projects died in development because there’s already a show about autism - mine.”
“I’m proud to be the voice of autism,” continued Hoyland. “It’s a terrible disease that more people should be aware of. Also people should be aware of me.”
Hoyland was last seen polishing her BAFTA and typing the dialogue “what is love” into Final Draft with a self-satisfied grin.
