A non-autistic woman who can go outside without her face melting off with discomfort has declared that autism is a superpower.
Karen Hoyland, 45, who can walk out of her front door without sunglasses, headphones and a bag full of batshit supplies for any emergency, made the declaration after witnessing her autistic nephew sorting his Lego bricks by colour and size.
“It was remarkable,” Hoyland explained. “He had a whole system. It’s like his brain is a supercomputer. No, he can’t fly - but he can put all the red bricks in the same place.”
Hoyland’s nephew, Finley Rice, seven, said: “I’m not a superhero, I can just tell colours and sizes apart you weapons-grade numpty. What I’d really like to be able to do is go to Alton Towers without hyperventilating.”
Hoyland was last seen ordering a custom-made Superman T-shirt for her nephew, replacing the “S” with an “A”.
