2025-03-19 20:44:24 +0000 UTCThought it was crazy someone wrote in the paper to complain about the drinking/partying on St. Patricks in Boston. I spent 3 years there, and during that time it seemed traditional that the town was overtaken by drunk college kids, and if you weren't going to participate, it was best to stay home for the day. My first year there I had to go out for some reason on St. Patricks, and the amount of vomit, green necklaces, and beer cans/sq yard was unbelievable. It was a miracle I managed to take a train and not get any on me, either passively or directly from the source. After that I learned to celebrate by stocking up on snacks and binge watching a show in my quiet East Boston apartment instead. There's even a "holiday" the Monday after St. Patricks day that only happens in Boston which I'm sure has nothing to with everyone in town being hung over.
