We've hit 300 patrons! Which means we are so excited to introduce you to our new monthly podcast:
Fancy Movie Time with Brian and A.J.!
The Fancy Film Podcast For Fancy Folks™*!
For our premiere episode, just in time for Halloween, we're covering Frank Capra's bloodthirsty romp: Arsenic and Old Lace. It's got murder, intrigue, and the greatest performance Carey Grant ever hated.
This podcast is exclusive to you, our beloved patrons, so grab your monocles and top hats and join us each month on our quest the annals of film history, where we'll discuss the créme de la créme of cinema and also probably make a lot of dick jokes.
Do you have fancy movies you'd love to hear us chat about?
Sound off in the comments below!
Chances are, A.J. hasn't seen it.
Stay fancy, friends.
Your Fanciest of Possible Hosts,
Brian and A.J.
*We have not trademarked this, please don't steal it, oh god oh no we should have thought this through.
When I was in this play in high school, our set designer was too lazy to build a light switch, so we had characters adjust the lights with a 'clapper'

Speaking of Carey Grant's ass, North By Northwest would be an excellent film for the series

When my college did this play someone’s phone went off in the middle and the girl playing Abby looks straight up and said “Jesus, is that you?“ The audience went nuts!
Thank you for reminding me of one of my favorite things.
My grandparents went to Niagara Falls when they got married in the 1950s, so this tracks.
I want to hear more about you playing Abraham Lincoln for the history channel (or was that a joke?) What is that like for those actors that reenact parts as historians explain it?

Regarding Niagara Falls, I think it’s kind of the equivalent of those British seaside towns that used to be much more happening before the airlines made it easier for the working class to go to Spain instead. (Niagara Falls is also like Atlantic City in this regard.)
So for the West Coast, equivalents might include… Santa Barbara? Or, more recently, those weird palatial seaside hotels in Huntington Beach? Pasadena also used to be a vacation town in the prewar era, too.

Another movie that should be in the Criterion Collection but isn’t (probably because the studios rightly wish it had never been made) is “Myra Breckinridge” (1970), a movie so transphobic Gore Vidal disowned it lol. Every second of the movie is “wtf am I watching”, and gloriously so.
AFAIK it isn’t available for streaming legally anywhere online. It used to be on YouTube but seems to have taken down (though there’s still a Spanish dub available), and now it seems to be on the Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/myra-breckinridge-1970
(Alternatively I can send you a sharing link for the copy I downloaded myself from YouTube a year or so ago.)
What made me think of “Myra Breckinridge” is that the main character is an insufferable film snob, except it’s 1970, and she’s talking about how movies were so much better thirty years prior (when the actress herself is only thirty years old). Also the pre-transition version of the character is played by notorious piece of shit real-life film critic Rex Reed, who despite to modern eyes coming across as homophobic and gay is apparently asexual.
Anyway you simply must watch “Myra Breckinridge”.

To be clear, the only way a prospector gets fancy is if he drinks your milkshake.

“Last Year at Marienbad” is the sort of fancy movie I didn’t get when I was younger but now get far too well…

I find Fancy Brian and Fancy AJ only marginally better than their Worst of all Possible counterparts

I would love to hear Brian and A.J.’s take on a very similar Criterion film, All About Eve, and maybe the polar opposite in terms of Criterion films, Stalker. Both exceptionally fancy movies

We're still working out profit sharing with A.J.'s mom for what will certainly be our best-selling shirt.

I wonder if, for a bit, enough people unsubcribed but the number both dipped and then bounced back to 300, if the boys would honor a 300 sub special two
