What y'all called seminary was just referred to as Bible study or like special Bible classes in my church. Granted I went to public school and only heard about it in church groups. Seminary was always portrayed to me like a kind of Christian graduate or post grad school; it was where you went to learn how to be a pastor or a church leader. Whether that's true or not, it was always the place referenced when I asked those same "wait how does that make sense" or "I don't recall seeing the part where Jesus said speaking to a woman qualifies as a date, also wouldn't that mean he dated that prostitute at the well?" kinds of questions. Even now I still find people deflecting critical analysis with statements like "oh we tackle things like that in seminary" instead of actually responding to the question
