THE TOWER - ARCANA EP
Added 2023-09-30 11:01:00 +0000 UTCDearest Demons,
The final song from ARCANA.
Is there anything more terrifying than drawing the Tower card in tarot?

In Cath's words:
I love how dramatic and powerful this card is! Often misunderstood as solely a card of destruction, for me it embodies those life-altering moments that shake us to our core, forcing us to rebuild from the ground up. Though difficult, these are the moments that offer us the chance to grow and become stronger. I've always been drawn to that idea of burning something to the ground so that the new can rise from the ashes (The Tower was one of the thematic influences when writing my single 'Fire Song'). Musically, we wanted something fast and chaotic and dramatic and loud. This song has the most going on in terms of instrumentation, structure, and rhythm. My favourite bit is the outro where Mishkin and I play different rhythms against each other, creating this chaotic sensation of the ground getting swept away from under you and having nothing to anchor yourself to. We hope you enjoy the weirdness.

This song was a very fun one to construct because it was totally mad. From the opening riffs to the ridiculous guitar screeching solo that breaks through before it goes into a metric modulation of contrasting drums+pianos, we loved every minute and had a lot of fun adding every layer. We hope you enjoy listening to it. It is pure chaos in a song.
Here are some lyrics...
THE TOWER
Revelation
I have waited all my life
For a storm to
Split the sky, and blind with light
Bring me danger
A triumph for awakening
Years of hunger
Bruising deep beneath my skin
Never enough to kill me
As I run to the tower
In the chaos, in the distance
I can see a star
In one life,
I played inside the lightning clouds
Now I fear the desires I can’t speak aloud
Life is a subtle poison
To keep us aground
Tired and beaten, but I run to the tower
The air I breathe
Becomes the wind that blows
From embers to a flame
I climb the fallen stair
Hitt each step with a sigh
The power from my prayer
holding through this fight
And I see it now, through the burning cloud
And the smoke it stings my eyes
And I wished it, and I needed it
A storm so wild it scorched the skies
And the suffering from my tears
Drowns me
As my tower crashes down
And I’m laughing
And I’m screaming
As the flames fall all around
