ALKONOST Themes #1 + #2 - Official "Thing"

Attached is the main "theme" and the first "variation" for this month's official thing.
The full album will be out later tonight, after my webcast (all 6 variations) for the $3+ tiers.
The theme comes from Rachmaninov's Serenade in Db major which I am currently studying (and failing to play, ha).
If you listen to the first 5 notes, and some of the chord progressions, you can hear it throughout the music as variations. I don't know if he would be proud or appalled but either is good with me π
I shall go into further detail in my $15+ video blog.
I went with the title "Alkonost" (a suggestion from Simon, our manager), as I was able to delve into the world of Russian bird folklore... it is quite fascinating.
An Alkonost is a half-woman, half-bird mythical creature, and sister of the Siren. It is also a close relation of the Gamayun. You can read up on both legends and the history behind it here.
Initially this album was just going to be just for solo piano but as with all my projects, once the eggs have hatched... they grow legs and take on lives of their own.
I have the addition of soundscapes from one of my students (Jel), a bit of baritone from Garry and strings from Hana. I even managed to get my flute out too ;)
