Tutorial 116: Filming Elements

This week, we look at using filmed elements to get some free animation. Get someone to drive you around and film out of the windows. Bring the footage into AE and mirror it, crush it with some levels, and just have fun an experiment to see what interesting things you can do with it. Even the footage alone looks interesting. Horizontally reflected skylines have even been used in music videos.

We're switching up out project files, as noted on this post about [Improvements]. So this one is available through our Gumroad store. If you're a patron, there’s a link on a private post for you to get it.

There's a lot of TPA stuff in my videos—sometimes big, sometimes subtle. Before we rearranged the studio, there was a Tampa blockprint I made behind me along with this Ybor City one and the carved block for my Seminole Heights print is behind my head. I use footage from Tampa when I can. The beach shots I use as backgrounds are from Picnic Island, and the Gasparilla ship makes an appearance every once in a while as well. The tutorial that used drone footage was of Gasparilla from the Hillsborough River, but I couldn't see the parade in it, haha.

Did I hear you say Tampa in this video? Didn't know I had a bunch of awesome creators so close to my neighborhood.
