Thinking Things about Mutons

Another quick update, as you can see i have something here, but i'm not sure what, maybe writing this post will help me figure it out, let me explain in one of my usual long winded hard to understand borderline schizophrenic posts.

So, as i mentioned way way way way way back, the only reason this mod exists is because i wanted to reuse the helmet(and mask) that i had made for Axiom in Chimera Squad, as we know, for some reason i couldn't put this in Chimera Squad, don't know why, but i ended up giving the stuff to someone else so they could try, and as far as i know they couldn't put this in-game either. So, not wanting this mesh to go to waste, i decided i would use it to make an Xcom2 Muton enemy, which ended up being the Harrier, originally the plan was 1 Muton with the helmet, and a grenade launcher, in other words, the one on the far left in the picture above.

Then, not wanting to make "just" 1 Muton, i came up with the idea of making a second one that would use a rifle, and they would have a cape hanging from their shoulder just to make them look more fancy, the idea being that they would be the "captain". The idea behind Harriers was also that they would be some kind of "spec ops" Mutons, they would use magnetic weapons and be more like Advent.

Then, the idea evolved again to not make them "advent ish", but instead just make them tougher Mutons, and so the design for their weapons changed to be more "alien". While doing this however i was not satisfied with the Muton Harrier "Captain" using the same helmet as the standard Harrier, so i sketched out a new helmet, this helmet however reminded me of a helmet i had made in the past for the Armored Viper from Team CX, to be specific, the higher level Viper that is black and purple. This is a bit of a sidenote but the reason the higher level Viper is black and purple is because of both the Avatars, and LW2's Muton Elites using that color scheme, at this point i had already made the Exalted Pathfinders(who are dark red), and i knew that when i made aliens i wouldn't want them to share the same "tier 4" color scheme as my Advent, so i figured black and purple would fit the "tier 4 aliens", and it was convenient that it matched the Avatar and LW2's Muton color scheme, hence, the black and purple Armored Viper.

The reason i told you that side note is because that's why i got the idea of making a Tier 4 Muton Harrier, the helmet i sketched for him reminded me of the helmet i made for the stronger armored viper who used that color scheme, so, at this point the idea of the Muton Harrier had grown from 1 Muton, to 3, the standard GL one, the rifleman who at this point was no longer a "captain" in my head, and the Tier 4 one.

Now, here's the thing, i had completely forgotten that when i made Axiom's mask/helmet, i made it with the intention of making 2 mods, one with a full helmet, and 1 with just a mask, i didn't remember that until i was putting the Muton Harrier in-game. In my previous post i said i would try something different with the rifleman and that is what i was referring to, so, picture above third from the left, is the Muton Harrier "Rifleman", now renamed to "Muton Beleaguer".

But wait, now there are 4 Mutons. Well the reason is simple, when i was making the Muton Beleaguer with just the mask, i wondered how they would look with the Muton Hunter's Eyepatch, but i didn't want to give the eyepatch to the Beleaguer, and so, a dormant idea within my grey matter was resurrected, i mentioned before that the Beleaguer was originally going to be the "Captain" for the GL using Harrier, so, i figured i could resurrect the captain idea with the eyepatch, and so now we had 3 Mutons(not counting the Tier 4 one), and this Captain is the 4th Muton on the picture above, but then another problem came up.

I've always been a fan of full helmets, in fact, the reason i started seriously modding back when Dawn of War 2 came out was because it annoyed me to no end that all the sergeants, and captains, and whatever that the Space Marines had, didn't use Helmets, i mean come on, you live in a hell nightmare universe where even the shittiest guns are some obscene overpowered magic weapon of mass destruction and you as the leader are not using a helmet to protect your bald head? And it also annoyed me that in Xcom 2, the powered armor tier didn't have proper helmets, which is why my first mod for Xcom 2 was the powered mk2 helmets mod(which you can find in the nexus and will never make it's way to the workshop since i'm too lazy to port it to WoTC and fix the texture issues it has).

So in other words, the fact that the Captain for these Mutons didn't have a full helmet bothered me, so i made a helmeted version, which picture above is the second one from the left, but i can't deny that the eyepatch using Captain also looks pretty cool, so... 4 Mutons right now.

This is the idea right now, from left to right: Muton Harrier, Muton Harrier Captain, Muton Beleaguer, Muton Beleaguer Captain. But the problem now is that i never intended to make these many Mutons for this mod, remember we're still missing the tier 4 one, so in total there would be 5 Mutons here. And i'm not even sure what the standard rifle Muton was going to do, and now i have to figure out with 3 more Mutons do. But here are the ideas i have right now: The Muton Harrier as mentioned many times before uses a Grenade Launcher with a small AoE attack that ignores cover, because of the name "Harrier", the weapon probably wont deal much damage, but it should be pretty annoying. The Captain version could potentially use gas grenades, the Beleaguer would not have a standard fire ability, instead they would only use suppression, and the Captain would have that mark grenade i sketched in those pages i posted before.

But that might be a bit much, so another idea would be to just make the standard Harrier and Beleaguer "tier 2" enemies, and make the Captains "tier 3" enemies, so that's what i'm at right now, in the mean time it's time to finish their weapons, i think i'm going to leave all the Tier 4 Muton stuff for last.

So as usual with all that said, i hope you like how these guys look, either way i'm definitively using all these looks, so you're going to end up fighting all these big men. Anyway i'll be seeing you again soon, take care out there in the post apocalypse world we're living in.
