In Search of Aesthetic - Electric After Dark Podcast

Hi everyone, this month's episode of Electric After Dark Podcast might be one of the last ones! Instead, I am going to try and switch over to a new patreon reward where you all submit topics to me ($2 get one topic, $5 get two) and I answer them in a big recorded video where I have your topic in a chapter so you can just jump right to it if you don't want to watch the whole vid :-) If this seems like a popular alternative that you all enjoy then I'll do that in After Dark's place.

That's awesome to hear! I'll be doing them for the next two months and then give the Q and A thing a try :-) Just to test at least

The Electric Underground

I really love the podcasts. I like listening to the longform especially when working. Beats taking a break and checking social media, which can be a real drag! But at the same time I like your new idea and let's face it youtube is where the traffic is at. Whatever you decide I'll be listening.

NeonDaggerGames

We'll see how it turns out, I might do both. i will have both in Nov just to see if that is a good replacement or not. Glad to hear you enjoy the podcast though!

The Electric Underground

I always look forward to the podcast so I will miss it but I’m a Patreon cause of the YouTube channel so I will still support it.

ArrowViper

Awesome feedback! So next month I will do both and see what you all think :-)

The Electric Underground

I really enjoy the podcasts, but if you think the topic videos would be a good idea then alright. Having the more long-form, relaxed, in-depth discussion format is the most important thing to me, if the topic videos can do that too then that's fine.

HotPocketHPE

That does sound cool! I'm gonna play around with some ideas ha. Also next month will be another ep of after dark, just to see how it stacks up to the topic request idea.

The Electric Underground

You might want to try having a length and / or total submission limit on the questions while keeping it concise enough for folks to see the questions they want answered.

Have you have thought of combining skeletons, lightning effects, and mechanical junkyard. That might be a starting point for your unique aesthetic. I kind of like that logo style. Also, it may be good to do an occasional After Dark as a way to vent your voice out of there, even if that is not the most viewed part of the patreon.

JBRPG

Good to know! It might be a short lived experiment ha. Worth a try though I think

The Electric Underground

My two cents..... While the After Dark stuff can be a little meandering, I appreciate the laid back tone and vibe. I personally think a long Q&A video would be pretty tedious unless the topics are interesting to me.

I see what you are saying, but I think it's always worth while to analyze one's work and try to push it forward. In my youtubing skillset, you could call it, I've focused a lot on my composition and delivery over the years and I think they have seen a strong improvement. Last year my goal for the channel was to improve my editing, and I think that has paid off as well. So in this idea of establishing an aesthetic for the channel, it's not so much fixing the unbroken, but paying more attention to an aspect of the channel I have sort of ignored for a long time. I was playing around with the setup a bunch last night (the paint worked) and I think you'll see what I mean in the next few vids where having a more cohesive visual identity can glue together a lot of my myriad topics and ideas.

The Electric Underground

with all this aesthetic thing i feel like you want to fix the unbroken. especially considering that you are deliberately trying to invent it, not to implement what is coming to you naturally. i see this thing already existing on the channel, but in another form - in attitude. this is the reason i joined your channel, while absolutely unable to watch junkie or mudprints. but ofc if you don't try you won't know, so good luck with that.

GPM

I'll do another After Dark episode next month then and see how you think things stack up with the topic requests :-)

The Electric Underground

Probably not. Honestly, you talk a LOT about how YT corners you into talking about certain topics and not others. This seemed like a place that was a pressure release on your ideas that weren't going to come out, and honestly, I enjoyed the unfiltered podcast more than the polished products most of the time.

Matthew Deragisch

Ha I've been working on it all night, so far I've come up with this cool looking black and white + red gradient that I think looks interesting and eye-catching, we'll see! I'm open to keep trying ha

The Electric Underground

Oh the topics just need to be non-political, non-religious, not deeply personal questions, from there though I think it will be fine to leave them open ended. I'm gonna have a topic submission post every month and if someone suggests a topic I think would be an issue I'll just leave a reply requesting a different suggestion instead.

The Electric Underground

Definitely good to know! Do you think the topic discussion video would be a satisfying replacement? My goal is to make it lisenable and podcast like and it will probably be longer than After Dark eps. Do you think you'd be willing to give it a try next month to see what you think?

The Electric Underground

Without the podcast, I'm probably out. But I'm sure I'm theminority, which is always the case.

Matthew Deragisch

What are your criteria of topics to make it feasible for yourself?

JBRPG

I can take or leave the podcast. The Q and A seems interesting. I guess it all depends on the questions. I expect a full black metal aesthetic, corpse paint and all, next week <3
