NEW BOOK!

Conor and Mike announce their, and your, next assignment. It's a good one.

Comments

I'm definitely happier believing it's legit and not a troll.

Jason Hammack

Does anyone else find the repetition in this to be almost hypnotic?

Zach Dewoody

Wow! Maybe they should read that “Handbook For Mortals”

Taylor Conner

Hate to burst everyone's bubble (including mine), but . . . www.vox.com/culture/2017/9/13/16275802/who-wrote-my-immortal-tara-rose-christo

Jason Hammack

Cool, someone else remembers TWoP. I still miss the forums.

Aaron Baugher

I totally agree. Certain specific misuses like masticate/masturbate and feces/faces make me feel like this has to be at least part tongue-in-cheek.

Amanda Martyn

So I read about the various theories surrounding the authorship of this, and while the alleged evidence that the author had multiple other early social Media accounts is compelling... When I come back to the story itself, I still find it very hard to believe that the constant malapropisms aren’t intentional. 😳 Yes, bad writers will make mistakes, but so continuously, to such hilarious result? It’s almost too much to accept! Either way, troll or not, the sheer mythology and mystery around this work is impressive!

Augusta Vae

Dammit Fiveal!! Not Tom and Jerry!

Emily Brown

Wait, where's the link to the Tom and Jerry changing Dewey Duck's diaper fanfic?! That's gotta be good.

Emily Brown

So Katy t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m wrote Harry Potter fan-fic...

Seth Daugherty

Honestly there are so many dumb sentences in this story that I feel like it’ll be hard to pick just one for every reading 😂😂

Carson Heschle

This is really hard to read for me. It presses all my embarrassment buttons for some reason, although I have found some great dumb sentences that transcend any embarrassment. But I will soldier on!!!!

Heather Crocetto

_STOP FLAMMIN DA STORY PREPSZ OK!_

Kerry S.

Started reading this today. Not sure I’ll be able to finish.

Damon Sharp

The title "My Immortal" always makes me think of Roger Zelazny's Hugo-winning novella, This Immortal. Sadly or not so sadly, Zelazny's work is surely much much better written than this turd will be. :D

Augusta Vae

Yes, and her last name is Way, like Gerard Way, but they’re NOT related. Which is too bad, cuz he’s a fukin HOTTIE.

Carson Heschle

Dude it’s so freaking good hahaha you are in for a treat

Carson Heschle

I’VE BEEN TRAINING MY WHOLE LIFE FOR THIS. 😍😍😍 Jk but I have listened to a couple dramatic readings, and the web series is pretty funny too, tbh. 👌🏻👌🏻 I have so many favorite dumb sentences already from this story. a personally beloved, less noted gem is, “I MAY BE A HOGWARTS STUDENT, BUT I AM ALSO A SATANIST!” Just *chef’s kiss*

Carson Heschle

Based on the author notes, I'm gonna need to see the original comments.

superrad

This is going to be the first Harry Potter book I've read.

Rick Drake

Conor:"We need to select DSOWs!" Mike: {picks two sentences at random} "Okay, we're good!"

Elizabeth Meredith

You're truly doing God's work my friend

Jami Woodworth

I haven't read fanfic since the Bad Buffy Fanfic posting board thread on Television Without Pity. This is going to be rough.

mikelesq

I've made ebook versions of My Immortal in a variety of formats for use with Kindles and other eReaders: .azw3 (Kindle) https://www.dropbox.com/s/bri7fgs9rr2bkru/My%20Immortal%20-%20Tara%20Gilesbie.azw3?dl=1 .mobi https://www.dropbox.com/s/9cddte2qksn470g/My%20Immortal%20-%20Tara%20Gilesbie.mobi?dl=1 .epub https://www.dropbox.com/s/sgs5t9yv5zefwkx/My%20Immortal%20-%20Tara%20Gilesbie.epub?dl=1

Jay

Ah yes My Immortal. I've read this many times over the years. I remember discovering this in 2009 or so and reading out loud with my friend. If you've never read any of this, you are in for a wild, wild ride.

Luke Bovard

"I have long ebony black hair (that’s how I got my name)." So she was born with long ebony black hair or she was named after it grew out?

JoshG

Hmm. It seems so much longer! I think there are many different versions. Some of the later chapters are of dubious provenance and many attribute them to Christopher Marlowe. 😏

Emily M

We don't even get the title before it's compared to a literary great, Charles Dickens. I love it! 15 seconds later: My Immortal? I've heard of it, but never dreamed of reading it. There's a joke that goes, How do you make God laugh? You tell him your plans. Thanks, guys. Thanks for giving God a reason to point his finger and laugh at me (again).

Kerry S.

Oh my sweet summer child. You have no idea what awaits you.

Emily M

The paperback Conor linked is 268 pages. Hoping most of that is scholarly essays and endnotes because you promised this would be short!

Brian Koser

YES! Excited for this one! Be warned, I don't know of any readings/podcasts/adaptations that were able to finish it. They all tap out eventually. I think it might be cursed. However, I have faith in you two and if anyone can finish it, you can. Nevertheless, Godspeed. (Spoilers?) I should probably warn you that even though it's inept, it's morally repugnant. It really trivializes suicide. Yeah, I know some teens are like that and there is no way in hell anyone took her seriously but it's still kind of gross. Lots of casual references to rape and incest too. Also a fair amount of homophobia. The author seems like a really unpleasant person. She doesn't have the weird sweetness of Thrash or Courtney. Hopefully she's matured. You probably know this already, but there are so many people on the Internet who are obsessed with it. If you feel like having guests who really know their stuff, you shouldn't have any problems finding someone. I think Conor mentioned one of them from i09. Btw this podcast is worth checking out. I think they made it the farthest but they seemed to have stopped last October. It's fun though. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/whose-immortal-a-literary-masterwork/id1342532795

Emily M

I just had my girlfriend listen to a dramatic reading of the first few chapters, and I think she is considering leaving me.

MST3James

Under "Eye of Argon" at Goodreads: "5 stars for the same reason My Immortal got five stars; that is, creating something so incredibly horrific is a talent in itself."

Moviegique

Harry Potter? You two are the bravest podcasters I've ever known.

andrew

Oh hell yes. This is going to be an amazing trip down memory lane for me

Misha Stryker

I thought it was gonna be Atlanta Nights because it was also written under a pen name, has Eye of Argon as a See Also on Wikipedia and made me laugh at the first chapter as well. With that said, I recommend we read that book.

Dylan Donahoe

Please tell me the main character and Draco get it on. PLEASE. No, wait. Don’t tell me. I want to experience this as it happens.

The toad’s name is Trevor. Oh good lord. I’m going to be unbearable.

Natalia Mclean

Dear lord. I just read the first "chapter". It's worse than you think it will be.

JoshG

The Real or Fanfic for this one are going to be WILD.

Emma Schroeder

What a masterpiece of postmodern metafiction!

Natalia Mclean

Never heard of this one, but it sounds like a deep dive into the surreal. Godspeed, gentlemen. :-) (I chortled at "Sinatra"!)

Gina Dalfonzo

As soon as Conor mentioned the "see also" part of the Wiki page, I knew it had to be My Immortal. And oh, the memories of my college/post-college early 2000s LJ years came flooding back... I hope you guys are marking up hard copies, because I intend to get my hands on one.

Anna Zaigraeva

As soon as the webseries was mentioned I knew what it was. Glad I finally have an excuse to read this

Jacob Reed

Ah. I've heard of this. Never read it all the way through, but watched a Youtube dramatic reading of That One Part.

SabreMau

I’ve read the Amazon reviews and I’m horrified. Let’s dig in

Matthew
