Episode 51 - Grandpa, No!

In between the General reading reports, Trucking Through Time manages to fit in some genuinely insane moments. Our heroes literally get to meet God, and it's the second craziest thing that happens. (The first is our favorite moment in all of literature.)

We'll listen in on some surreptitious recordings made by Harris' family, examine the GoodReads history of a guy who didn't care for TTT and cares for cookbooks even less, and of course, will see if Mike can separate fanfic from real Harris text.

For next time, read thru Chapter 16, page 285. Only two more Truckin' eps left!

And if you're near Minneapolis, we'd love to see you at our live show, Wednesday September 18th at Sisyphus Brewing!

Need to send them artwork so we can get it up on their page, will see if we can take care of that next by next week!

When do tickets go public for the Sisyphus live show?

Matt

I literally just watched that for the first time a couple weeks ago! And yes, it did bring this book to mind...

Taylor Conner

After having watched the cave scene in 'Bone Tomahawk'...the torture pole scene is practically PG-rated.

Raheeq’s reviews are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to his newsletter.

Dale Rhea! The army’s got your number! They think your name’s an alias That you’ve been living under!

Taylor Conner

I actually wrote a list of standings, and here is how is worked out = RP1: Mike 4/9, (44% Right) and Conor 5/10 (50% right), Armada: Mike 10/21 (47%) and Conor 6/10 (60%), Eye of Argon: Mike 2/6 (33%), TekWar: Mike 22/29 (75%), Titus Uno: Mike 5/9 (55%), Bob Honey: Mike 11/14 (78%), The Mister: Mike 10/23 (43%), Trucking is ongoing, but currently Mike is at 12/21 right (57%). If anyone is interested, I can put up all the notes I made from it on a Google Doc.

Michael Coello

My handwave is that The General knows what year it is, Chad and Dale do not.

RotoLando

Did anybody else notice on page 182-- the General suspects that Dale and Chad are working with the Confederates? So we know that they've traveled back to sometime between 1861 and 1865. Except this is Charles E. Harris and he can't manage a timeline for crap so nevermind.

Heather

I need the listener who did the "We Didn't Start The Fire" parody for RP1 to do a take on Laura Branigan's "Gloria" based around Dale Rhea (Dale Rhea!)

RotoLando

Soon!

I was re-listening to the episode for Tek War where they talk about their ridiculously short sentences (compared to drug-related offenses) and pardons for rapists in the future GLA justice system. Can we *maybe* find a middle ground between that and Chad's highly romantic proposal scene? On an unrelated note, my conspiracy theory as to why Miss Marie is called such when she is married to Dale: Marie's name is actually Maria, and so she did not take Dale's last name when she married him because being Maria Rhea would just be too much. The problem is her last name is Stadt, so their children are all Rhea-Stadts and they all had to drop out of their electrician apprenticeships because nobody took them seriously.

Heather

Heather is a two-way player. She fools Mike with her fan-fic and psychs him into thinking other passages are her work.

James Lester

Pretty impressive that the dark web recording also included the inner thoughts of Harris and his son. That’s some good technology!

John G

Chad's proposal inspired the name of my new Brendan Urie cover band: Panic! At The Torture Pole.

Carson Heschle

That was….quite a ride. I kind of wish you announced a meme contest before this section.

RotoLando

yay im a trusted listener, w/e that is (i love it!)

amolove

At this point I *have* to attribute my streak in large part to Conor's craftiness in selecting and reading fanfic/real passages and Charles E.'s completely bonkers book. I'm curious what the Real or Fanfic statistics are for each season.

Heather

fuzzies? albanian flag? a slimy string of disjointed vertebrae, snapped trachea, esophagus, and jugular, disjointed hyoid bone, morose purpled stretched hide, and blood seared muscles?

372 Pages We'll Never Get Back

I'm waiting for the dreadfully earnest "unofficial" adaptation of this book, followed by the inevitable lawsuit from the Harris estate.

Joe Talledo

What should my Tom Servo wear to *this* live show?

Emma Schroeder

Damn it, boys...I am so far behind in this book, but I really wanna listen.

JoshG

You guys should do a reading of a section of TTT for the live show. I'm becoming convinced TTT could be the greatest dramatic opportunity of our time. At the very least, it would tower over all other time-traveling-truck-themed plays in the canon.
