The official translations are behind by 10 chapters usually because they release by physical volumes. There is a new app that plans to simulcast monthly but not yet.

"official translations aren't a thing yet worldwide" - I don't know what you mean by worldwide (maybe physical), but the official translations are out for like the first 200 chapters or so online. "mangadex is the way to go" - Not really, he can just read it on the link he reads One Piece on; higher quality than MangaDex and has the official translation. P.S I've told him about the fact that the manga is monthly, but I doubt it matters to him that much, although we'll see.

When i got up to date with the Naruto anime i read the manga and found it significantly made my enjoyment of the anime worse. Reading the events in the manga was entertaining but getting them scenes in the anime fresh with the voice acting and music definitely gave me much more enjoyment. For example if I was to say i got 100% enjoyment out of watching the Naruto anime before reading the manga then reading the manga only gave me about 60% of that feeling and then watching the manga I had read being adapted made the anime experience like a 70% because I already knew all the events about to happen. Since then I have stayed away from manga, the one exception that I want to read is Berserk because the anime recent adaptations for it were so bad and I can't see it having a good one anytime soon.

I think in the meantime you could read something like Vagabond or Berserk to pass the time and you'll get to experience the other 2 of the Big 3 Seinen manga.

Chapters are pretty short for a monthly, around 20 pages on average compared to 40 pages in other monthly manga. I read the manga monthly and although I enjoy it, I'd be lying if I said the weekly experience with the anime isn't better. I always feel the chapters don't have enough content every month so sometimes I wait 4-5 months when a few chapters pile up and binge them. If you think you would enjoy reading monthly, go ahead. I don't complain though cuz Yukimura's health is important so I'm still grateful we get 20 pages every month. The manga is ending in the next 1-2 years. The final arc has around 15-20 chapters left maybe. Personally would prefer you waiting a couple of years for the season 3 (normal waiting time for 24 episode seasons) but I understand if you can't wait. I'm friends with the translator of the manga by the way so if you do read it mangadex is the way to go. His translations are great, official translations aren't a thing yet worldwide but will happen soon
