November-December news!

Hello dear supporters of Language Transfer and the Thinking Method!

This is a project looking to uncover things that help us access more of the world and of ourselves - and one another. Things that can make it a little bit more exciting to live in this world, things that inspire us to be more than what we might have been… that’s what we’re all doing here, together. As cheesy as it might sound, it’s no less true for it!

This month I’ll be returning to the base in Asturias, Spain to prepare for our new course writer who will be joining me in December for a month! We’ll be working intensively on this new ‘mystery language course’ that I won't announce until we drop tracks - needless to say I'm bursting at the seams though!

Whilst I try to figure out what kind of relationship I need to have or can have with my almost-home-country of Cyprus (more about that in a forthcoming SubStack article), I’ll be putting into motion some long-held plans to create a permanent LT base in Spain. Asturias is the only place I’ve been where this is realistic economically (you can buy some stupidly cheap houses to do up, take a peek! https://www.idealista.com/venta-viviendas/asturias/?ordenado-por=precios-asc), and cheap land too. In the photos you can see a piece of land I've had my eye on for a while, where I imagine an off-grid work station for new course writers to employ the intense concentration necessary for course writing in the most peaceful of environments, and where like-minded individuals can come to nurture, support and inspire each other to create forever more groundbreaking material. Hopefully something will be up, running and ‘populated’ by the summer!

I’m not oblivious to the grand crumbling act going on around us, and that for many this is a hard time to feel enthusiastic. It’s precisely the current circumstances that both give me a sense of urgency about finally creating this base, and that enthuse me with energy to continue creating material that makes us better prepared for this new world, and better prepared to shape it! Now that LT has branched out beyond languages, there are some gorgeous surprises coming our way. Hopefully, all the new learning that's coming will contribute to making us more capable, happier and stronger citizens. There are so many things we should have been taught at school, and that we were never taught at all. The good news is that many of those things are infinitely more interesting to adults with life experience!

So, all being well, my next update will hopefully be from Asturias, and with the new course writer! Meanwhile, please shoot me a message if you are due a sharer pack or an Interlinear book (you can check your pledge tier).

And one final thing, this is a periodic reminder that you should log into Patreon to message/comment (rather than replying to Patreon emails), and please resend messages if you don’t get a reply. Occasionally the messages just don’t go through and I'm saddened to think anyone may feel ignored!

All the best, and one big huge thank you for granting me this freedom to continue creating, it's not something I ever take for granted!

Yes!!!! Some visual reference material would be such a bonus and be very helpful to learning.

One other thing, I'm dyslexic and I vaguely remember when I was diagnosed years ago that they said sometimes I will struggle taking in information via audio. While I still hugely benefit from your courses, it really shows with this music one that I would benefit from a visual reference. No doubt as an educator you have already considered these sorts of things but just thought I'd tell you what my brain seems to be needing as I have to skip back quite often to get my head around some concepts. I will find some visual things to see if it helps me understand these patterns you talk about with the harmonics in the overtones and let you know how I get on.(I'm still only on track 7) Even just one diagram p/ lesson would be of huge help with the way I learn. Anyway, once again, it's a privilege to be learning about music in this way. Hope you're keeping well!

Hey James! Thanks for your kind words and feedback, and apologies for my delay in replying! That is on my list of things to look into in more detail and of course, if it does turn out to all be complete fantasy then there's many just as interesting things we can still say about the D5th! :) All the best and thanks again, and let me know if you have any further comments about the tracks! ...I'll be releasing new ones very soon! All the best and thanks again, Mihalis

Hello Mihalis, thoroughly enjoying your music course, and as usual, your enthusiasm is contagious, and affirming to hear you talk so passionately about how magical music is. One thing though(as you have asked for us to give feedback to help you develop the course): In episode 4 you talk about the diminished 5th, and how it was banned in church music as it was considered demonic (as a bastardisation of what is true, right and perfect in the perfect 5th, to put it in your words) But from multiple sources I have seen this debunked as myth. So maybe that might be worth taking out? Or rephrasing it if there is fact which similarly conveys the discomfort institutions felt with that interval? Link to Adam Neely's video on the topic: https://youtu.be/3MhwGnq4N9o But maybe you have a different source/more specific information about how the interval was prohibited?

James
