Please Don't Leave Me noise processing effect bus (Ableton)
Added 2023-05-20 15:00:03 +0000 UTCThese are (over two channels) the exact FX racks I used for noise in Please Don't Leave Me, featuring (left to right):
-A gate to chop it up when the volume goes beneath a certain level. Kind of an auto-cut up function
-A saturator, so it's always distorted, using specific eq/colour settings I might into detail when I do a post about the saturator
-Grain delay, best to automate it and fuck around with it. it's how I get that cyborg noise sound where it squelches
-Beat repeat for 'drills' (glitch sounds by using very small loops, will go into detail about beat repeat another time)
-Glue compressor! could also use the 'normal' compressor, but I used a glue one here for some reason. The attack on it is slow, threhold, ratio high and release quick as I usually do with compression for cut-up noise for 'kick-like' attack.
-Multiband where I sculpt the sound and "eq" it by making sure the sound is consistent by boosting and limiting frequencies within a specific range. It's in a seperate group because it was part of the group of tracks, but can work alone if it's simpler.
There's two variants, one for each track which are ever so slightly different. I strongly recommend you put it on harsh, atonal samples (pedal noise, screaming, metal sounds etc) but try it with anything!
Don't forget to automate the grain delay and beat repeat (put the beat repeat onto 'repeat' with automation when used if you don't want it randomly used)! You can also just use the tone-sculpting elements (multiband, compressor, saturator) if you just want the tonal quality it brings to noise.
Also as a bonus: have some of the vocal takes from the track! Only thing baked in is some distortion. Use them as samples if you absolutely must. The vocal FX rack is included. I might get around to posting stems so people can make remixes if they are so inclined, as well as more bits and pieces (FX racks etc) from the song.
What a horrible song.
