I love the dream sequences in this show. How they handle surreal symbolism is so unique. The detective beating up Dr Melfi’s date did it as an unasked favour for Tony in my mind, as he’s assuming she is his goomar (mistress). I definitely don’t see AJs look at Tony at the end of the episode as any kind of pride. It’s more a death of his innocent perception of his father, he’s literally leaning on a grave as he realises his dad isn’t the man he thought he was.

Regardless of resolution, it's supposed to be a lesson on interacting with others. Having his father's shadow creep into that is disheartening

Yes it's a Big Sister telling her little Brother "I told you so dumbass" but it's really about a kid learning that his father is not who he thinks he is and his whole life is funded by crime... but still , it's just a Big Sis telling Lil Bro "Told you!" lol

It's a great detail. Also I like their discussion on Junior. It says a lot that he is going to his mother for leadership advice, and that he only got it after Tony okayed it with everybody else. What does it say that Tony is the one delivering the news.

The genius of the show is that all the mafia stuff takes a back seat to truly interesting characters. If you stripped all the mafia out of the Sopranos, you'd still have an A-rated show. Also, I'm happy you watched 1x4 and 1x5 back to back. If 4 elevated the show, 5 took it to another galaxy. I can't wait to get your thoughts on that one.

Meadow was talking about Jackie (The Acting Boss who had cancer) and how they (Meadow & AJ) call him "Uncle Jackie" even though he's not THEIR uncle. You'll see throughout the series that the kids call all of Tony's friends and associates "uncle". Tony's son's name is "Anthony, Junior". He is most often addressed by the initials "AJ", with his full name "Anthony" used mainly by his parents and in formal settings. It's very rare that he is called "Tony", but it does happen sometimes. Tony's father was a Captain, which is the same rank that Tony and Junior are now (Until Junior became Boss at the end). Junior has always had resentment because Tony's father was his YOUNGER brother, but he became a Made Man first and then became a Captain first. So Junior is bucking against the idea that his nephew may outrank him.

2024-08-26 23:53:35 +0000 UTCi'm binge watching your haykyuu reactions atm so i will try to watch this tomorrow, but just wanted to mention that my coworker that loves the sporano and i were talking about the show yesterday while we had lunch and he didn't spoil me anything but the things he mentioned made me even more eager to keep watching this. also, his name is bernabé but some of us call him bernard as a joke and it remind me of bertholdt 🙃 every time i hear that name it reminds me of your aot videos
