A colleague was wearing a Ramones shirt. I started singing the chorus for Pet Sematary and they look confused. I pointed at the shirt, they were like: "It says Pet Cemetery on my shirt? Where?". I said "No, I was referencing the song". And they replied "Oh, I had no idea Ramones was a song".

It could be selling people or it could be simple as Mafia scouting out and offering jobs to residents. I think there's also may be a line between coercion and charisma that may be blurred here when it comes to the 31. For example, the owner of Sun and Moon saw no great difference between puppets and humans, the same as Chrollo does. However, Chrollo genuinely cares for his people, so is that true for the owner of Sun and Moon? I don't know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It seems more realistic or at least possible to me that the leaders of MC forced 31 people to do this. More of a warning than righting wrongs.

They didn't find a trace of him ever existing. The bum said he was from Meteor City and claimed his innocence, but the police prosecuted him anyway and the court found him guilty without giving him an adequate defense. Three years later, a drug addict was arrested, and his past crimes were uncovered. It turned out that the bum was innocent after all. Right afterward, a total of 31 people consisting of the cops, the judge, the prosecutor, his defense, and even the jury and witnesses that were involved in the case, were assassinated by the means of suicide bombings. The message found near what was left of their bodies read: "We'll accept anything you leave here, but don't ever take anything away from us." Their assassins were 31 Meteor City residents with bombs in their pockets, as it was believed. Each of them approached their intended target, offered them a handshake while smiling, and then blew themselves up, at different locations at exactly the same time. The reason is due to the fact that one of their own was unfairly condemned, so 31 of them gave up their lives to take down another 31 in the name of revenge.
