Camzeee you're a real one. I didn't think you would give it another chance - I was wrong. Good on you!

Dustywood

Glad you're enjoying the show. I think by the end you'll feel satisfied you continued to watch with the girls : ) you might even feel better about S2 haha

Kara

Season 2 is very experimental compared to the others and was never going to resonate with all viewers, however, I must contest your point about the show feeling like it didn't know what it wanted to be. I actually think the main issue with the season and why it doesn't work for a lot of people is because it almost has TOO much of an idea of what it wants to be and where it's heading. It's the first season where Esmail takes full control and he definitely went a little hog wild with the structuring and pacing - but it was all extremely intentional and the payoffs were well worth it IMO. The season will probably never connect with you no matter how many times you watch it and that's just the nature of it, but there's a reason it's Esmail's favorite season and why so many fans vehemently defend it. Personally, I enjoy rewatching season 2 more than any other season but it isn't my favorite season overall and I can understand why some people dropped the show during/after it.

I have continued watching :) I must admit I really am enjoying season 3 so far. I've only watched as far as the girls have uploaded since I'm watching along with the full reactions. I was very impressed with this episode. The camera work was outstanding, the tension was built well and I look forward to seeing how the story develops. I still don't like season 2 tbh even second time through. I felt like it didn't know what sort of show it wanted to be and I felt it lost a sense of the bigger picture in favor of stylistic and character meanderings which didn't really work for me. The Tyrell flashback episode in S3 did a lot to piece things together and anchor things again which I really appreciated and now I'm looking forward to where it takes things even though it's arguably a bit more predictable now in terms of story arc.

Camzeee

Same here Isaac, @Camzeee - I aint forgotten those words yet! You still watching Mr. Robot?

Dustywood

@Martin Nicholls 407's title very much fits

Isaac

@Camzee I was looking forward to your posts since I knew you only saw Season 2 before. Thoughts or have you dropped off?

Isaac

If they're sticking with the same schedule and don't skip a day of uploading, It should be tomorrow's upload.

Bryce

The Last of Us when? I cannot wait! That first episode is a doozy too.

Camzeee

I also missed the one-take presentation when I watched it the first time. I could feel the episode felt somehow more tense in the way it was shot, but I didn't realize why. It certainly enhanced it.

thelumpur

I never knew this!!!!!!!!!!! Great spotting

Dustywood

First three seasons they're just randomish file names or tech terms that fit the story I suppose, nothing _particularly_ interesting about them, then s4 they're http status codes (they're all error codes I guess is the most interesting part) until near the end. There's not a whole lot meaningful to them other than the fact the names are episode titles.

Martin Nicholls

39:55 elliot running 🤣

ramiro

Oh! And what about the titles!! L&M don’t pay too much attention but I find it so cool that they try to pair the tech staff with the things that are going on in the episode…is like if Sam was teaching us some tech concepts (that definitely I have no idea) but I get a little bit…innit5 or error 404 and things like that…

Agitprop

Very cool!! I had the idea that it was pretty accurate… thank u for the info!

Agitprop

Well they would only be able to cut when something takes up the entire screen so they can match it. At this point in time though, there are some REALLY good morph cuts in editing software so it probably will be possible soon to seamlessly match two cuts even if it's on an actor's face without anyone being able to tell

tom

OMG YES! forgot about the one shot! Amazing!

Literally everything. The very first episode there's a remarkably cringe conversation about KDE v Gnome from 1997 (this is a settled debate, it's Cinnamon or Xfce, come on guys) - but except for that everything is bang on the money, frighteningly so sometimes - I have nightmares about this stuff. First episode there's a scene with Eliot sat on the floor literally saving the day in the DC with people stood around watching, been there done that - though I've never flown in a private jet :) Oh, also, it never looks as cool when you're doing it for real - you're just an idiot sat on a dusty floor tapping wildly at a laptop: also data centres are _incredibly_ loud (the fans in those servers are made to move air very quickly at high pressure not to be as quiet as possible like in a desktop pc) and usually hot, you need ear defenders; which is one particularly hilarious point for me in season 4 (episode 5) that I won't speak too much about but you probably know the scene - it's dead quiet and just no.

Martin Nicholls

So is much on point even for you tech guys..

ELI5: the firmware (software that runs on the UPS hardware) that they need to run won't be accepted by the hardware unless it is cryptographically signed. Only one system in the building has the crypto private keys to do that (technically it's a piece of hardware called an HSM that is completely air-gapped i.e. has no network of any kind connected to it and they're often RF shielded and other things - which is the thing that is plugged in by Angela - with the keys to sign the code that you can't actually access the keys on, even if you take the device apart, they do things like fuse the chips in epoxy and cut weak points into the chips so if you try gain physical access they break physically). The task is to get their code signed so it can be installed on the UPS devices. Security guard, how does he know: it's his job to know. She had an access card for somebody grossly outside her normal access, this is a major security risk, which is the exact point. Yeah - it might seem crazy but an IT-heavy business like that their security guards should be highly trained in exactly that sort of access and the meaning of it. You get HSM access at a bank (and E-corp are that amongst many other things, they're also a software company) you can rip them off for billions, and per this that's on a good day. It wouldn't be the first time in history somebody has done something like started a riot at some company's building to get physical access to sensitive data and your HSM is one of the most sensitive things a business can have on their premises. The security of the HSM is a far bigger deal than the damage and the rioting and the people being attacked. It's actually quite technical, but I don't think it's necessarily important to understand exactly what is happening - it's just easter eggs for us nerds who do that for a day job. Bit sad about the lack of proper multifactor auth on the HSM, but otherwise :)

Now rewatching this once more I remembered that I read somewhere than in the elevator scene, as there are no cuts when Mr robot appear, Christian slater was un his knees the whole time while the camera kept moving around…is funny what some actors have to do to keep the magic

Agitprop

Yep, as others have said: Angela was essentially just following a step-by-step instructions on that piece of paper. As you might've seen the coding was very minimal, and most of it involved dealing with hardware. And the distraction with the riot was so Elliot (Mr Robot) could sneak in and carry out the task of making a copy without being noticed.

tom

Another little fact…airing this episode as it was in a “one take” and it was in convencional tv somehow Sam esmail manage to have this episode air non stop (no comercial breaks) so the effect wouldn’t get lost. I’m so amaze about the technical difficulty of filming this episode and it keeps amazing me all the time I watch it.

Agitprop

Little Easter egg in 34.50 when Ángela is gong back to her office you can see Elliot running in the background. Funny little detail.
