The crappy bit first, the new version prompt has been broken for all of the 2024 preview builds since April which only came to light around 2 weeks ago for which being annoyed with myself is still an understatement.
Manually updating to the new build is required unless you're one of the lucky ones where the build crashes on you & the post-crash prompting is still being triggered. So please let others that might be using WACUP know & my apologies for breaking this when ironically fixing an update related bug. The dev responsible for it has now been fired though am not sure if that was me, myself or I who got let go :)
Onto the nicer stuff & preview build 1.99.16.19516 went up at the end of June along with today's preview build 1.99.20.19994 with the key additions from both of them including:
initial online look-ups for albumart & lyrics for the currently playing item (can be disabled)
tiled details view in the local library views (afaict it was the last thing missing compared to 5.666's ml_local)
native OS toast support (win10+) so classic skins can have something since gen_toaster is buggy af (still deciding on whether a proper wacup native replacement of that is done)
native AAC encoding & local file playback (removes more of the few remaining re-used dlls from 5.666)
expanded gen_yar's copy feature to work in more parts of the player to act as basic replacement to 5.666's ml_pmp if you just want to move a bunch of files to a usb stick
library playlists can now have a group applied to them (requires the playlists to be shown as child nodes in the navigation tree) to better help dealing with many playlists hopefully
"listening to" support with the Discord integration along with up to 3 ATF configured lines (I know the discord prefs page shows up to 2 lines as that was missed in the beta testing)
re-worked youtube handling in a number of ways along with a preference mode so quick play of 360p video or wait longer & play up to 1080p videos can now be done (this will rely a lot on how good your internet connection speed is vs youtube &/or yt-dlp behaviours since they've been narrowing the range of simple to stream videos for some time hence the quick play mode only being 360p resolution)
bandcamp urls are now playable
everything else I've forgotten from the changelogs over the past few months work now that another summer has flown by
That's before all of the other changes & fixes which should resolve the majority of problems that have cropped up against the builds causing stability issues such as the streaming mode's resource leaks to problems with accessing files on the network which aren't on mapped drives & albumart caching issues with the local library views causing the wrong albumart to be displayed.
Back to coding I go as there's still too many re-used 5.666 plug-in dlls that need to be replaced (in_mp3 is the key one with gen_ff being a whole project on its own to implement a replacement) if I'm ever going to get to a point of being happy enough to make 64-bit preview builds available (this reply tries to clarify the 64-bit build vs 32-bit comparison on usefulness).
