"Well, now I know you're mad. I just wanted to make sure."

I met Morris Barry and Michael Kilgariff (Cyber Controller) at the Who Shop when Tomb Of The Cybermen was released on video. Morris Barry was a delight and he was a gentleman of the old school!

The scene with the Doctor comforting Victoria, talking about his family being 'asleep in [his] mind', is seriously one of my fave moments of Classic Who. <3

While I certainly enjoy this story, I don’t think it is the best of the 2nd Doctor’s era. It has a high reputation among fans, I think, because it was lost for many years, and is one of the few lost stories that was able to be rediscovered in full (recordings were found in 1991 in Hong Kong at Rediffusion, a TV and radio redistribution company). It was the first missing story to be rediscovered in full, I believe, and when released on vhs it topped the video sales charts. You do get a sense of Troughton’s Doctor here - his cheeky sense of humor, intelligence, and a touch of cunning. But especially, I feel, his compassion and caring nature, through his little speech with Victoria when he comforts her as she mourns her father. While Hartnell was often seen as the curmudgeonly old grandfather (though with a mischievous side), Troughton is very much the congenial uncle who you know will always look out for you. And while there wasn’t a huge amount for Jamie this story, you still got an indication of his character. Very brave, and willing to put himself in harms way to help others, but perhaps not all that quick on the uptake when the Doctor’s trying to pull one over on his opponents.
